Zelensky: Ukrainian loss could force US to choose between ‘collapse of NATO’ or war
The Hill via Yahoo ^ | June 15th, 2023 | Julia Shapero

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that a loss to Russia could ultimately force the U.S. to choose between the “collapse of NATO” or going to war.

“If Ukraine would lose, if Russia would occupy Ukraine, Russia will continue going towards Baltic countries, Poland, etcetera,” Zelensky said in an interview with NBC News. “And they will start war with one of the NATO countries, and at this moment, the U.S. would have to choose the collapse of NATO or go to war.”

The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are all members of NATO, as is Poland. An attack on any member of the alliance is “considered an attack against them all” under the treaty organization’s principle of collective defense.

Zelensky brought up the possibility of NATO involvement in response to the suggestion from some Republican politicians that the U.S. needs to limit its spending on the war in Ukraine.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — a 2024 Republican presidential candidate — previously described the war as a “territorial dispute,” while arguing that the U.S. should not become “further entangled” in the conflict. Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also warned last fall that a Republican majority in the House would not write a “blank check” to Ukraine for aid.

“Is any candidate or senator who thinks it costs too much for the United States to support Ukraine, is he ready to go to war, to fight, to send his kids,” Zelensky said Thursday, adding, “Because anyway, they will have to do this if NATO gets involved.”

“It’s not Ukraine against Russia,” he said. “Russia is fighting against the civilized world.”

When you expand a military alliance to the point that what happens in MONTENEGRO is a casus belli for WWIII, then you know its full of lies and corruption

“The one pyscho proposing this bill and the California voter are two different things. 74% of California Voters Reject Children’s Transgender Medical Treatments.”

Considering that this issue involves the MUTILATION of our kids and yet the people cannot stop it, one has to wonder which country is really a dictatorship - us or Russia?

NATO should have disbanded no later than 1993.

The choice is an armistice (1) at the Dnieper River, or (2) at the Sea of Azov. The counter-offensive is about pushing Russia out of Zaporizhzhia and out the Kherson west of the Dnieper, as well as at least threatening Crimea and/or the Donbas region.

Since nobody can trust Putin, consideration would have to be given to stationing NATO troops on the Ukrainian side of the armistice line as part of the armistice agreement, so as to deter future adventurism on the part of Russia.

It is a shame we didn’t do this back in 2014, but Germany said it would be provocative. That was Angela Merkel playing Neville Chamberlain achieving peace in our time.

The fact is people like Putin interpret appeasement as a sign of weakness. Appeasement only emboldens them and actually causes war instead of avoiding war. There is no good alternative to peace through strength.

As costly as this war has been to everybody involved (and I include the Russians in this), the cost of stationing NATO troops at the armistice line is nothing in comparison.

No link, just my opinion.

And besides, the Russians have already cut most of the bridges that NATO could use to send troops and armor into Ukraine from neighboring countries so land offensives are going to be a bit problematic. .

Don’t think it’s controversial to say that the Russians would have a very rough time with a serious American air attack. We would be in and out before they even knew we were there, and many Russian troops would be dead before they even knew they were under attack.

Historic enemy? They were a solid friend until the communist era… and they shucked off that burden over 30 years ago and went back to being friendly. But DC and morons refused to shift gears…. so simpletons and grifter out to make money declare them our “historic enemy”.

In the News/Activism forum, on a thread titled Zelensky: Ukrainian loss could force US to choose between ‘collapse of NATO’ or war, amnestynone wrote:
“He is a desperate lunatic who knows the “Great Counteroffensive” is unlikely to expel the Russians”

I find it very hard to believe that you are not a supporter of Russia which is our historic enemy and a clear aggressor.

So being realistic means one is a 'supporter of Russia'?  Zelensky is desperate and making decisions that are destroying Ukrainian assets with little gain, and not likely to expel the Russians. America has already funded this pointless war having contributed 71% of all foreign aid given to the Ukraine. That's because Biden has 'skin in the game' re Burisma, biowarefarelabs, the theft of the 2020 elections, funding of the DNC, Schumer's 'son', Pelosi's 'son' etc.

I think supporters of Russia would want the 100+ billions in aid to flow to Russia. I don't want ANY money going to the Ukraine - I want that money to build a wall to keep out military aged foreign nationals flooding our borders.

“No link, just my opinion.” I suspected as much, that’s fine.

“We would be in and out before they even knew we were there, and many Russian troops would be dead before they even knew they were under attack.”

Assume that’s also an opinion. Plenty here thought our wonder-weapons would wreak havoc on the Russians, and our stuff is getting DESTROYED there...plenty of video proof, in just the past 2 weeks.

Based on that, I wouldn’t be so sure that their air defenses are as pathetic as you imply...given our record of underestimating them in this war.

Russians have some pretty impressive air defense systems and they are formidable adversaries so it's not that the Russians are all that bad .

It's just that our guys are really that good. It would be like clubbing baby seals if we use our front line assets.

Russia, if she wins, will be too busy re-building there “New Russia” and reconstructing their army and navy to think of more expansionism for at least five to seven years. They have a carrier to launch, and restoring relations with Germany and, yes, even Ukraine.

First, we don’t need NATO, second, we definitely don’t need the Ukraine.
