Tokyo looks for workaround to help Kyiv’s counteroffensive despite curbs on weapons exports

...

Japan is in talks to provide artillery shells to the U.S. to bolster stocks for Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia—a pivot for a country that has long curbed exports of lethal weapons.

A global hunt for artillery shells for Ukraine has intensified as Kyiv presses to regain territory in its southeast from Russian forces. The U.S. has sent more than two million 155mm artillery rounds to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022, and Washington has been pressing its allies to contribute supplies.

On Tuesday, the U.S. announced a new package of military support for Ukraine, including 155mm artillery shells. The U.S. has drawn deeply from its stocks and is looking for ways to support Ukraine without harming its own military readiness.

...

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin held talks earlier this month in Tokyo with Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada. After the meeting, Austin praised Japan for the nonlethal military support it has given Ukraine and said additional assistance would be welcome.

An agreement has already been reached for South Korea to provide hundreds of thousands of 155mm artillery rounds for Ukraine via shipments to the U.S

Ukrainian troops are using more than 90,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition a month

Rahm Emanuel, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, said Washington is working with allies to help Ukraine because “over the last 18 months America’s military-industrial base and stockpiles have been stretched.”

Since the start of the invasion Japan has provided bulletproof vests, helmets and other nonlethal military aid to Ukraine. But it has stopped short of offering weapons, citing self-imposed restrictions.

this is primarily an artillery war,

Demilitarizing Japan, now.

Russia should slow down energy deliveries to Japan, and jack the price up.

China just needs to wait until the Biden-Blinken fools, zeepers, deep-state and their allies have exhausted the USA with stupidity.

--- "Japan in Talks to Provide Artillery Shells to U.S. to Boost Stocks for Ukraine"

Consider the headline from the point of view of production and delivery. Why not supply Ukraine directly, if that is the aim? Sounds like someone wants a "pass through," and it is certain that neither the ordinary folk in Japan or the US will earn anything at all from this, but someone somewhere will be paying. US taxpayers? Again?

Beijing Benedict Biden continues to deplete and weaken our military making it easier for some country like Mexico to declare war on the US and win.

China is watching the Russian army smashed into little pieces by an international alliance. They now know they can expect the same should they move on Taiwan.

First South Korea, now Japan. Isn’t it fun fighting another proxy war with Russia and probably China...this time in Ukraine.

Don't think China isn't pulling some strings in Ukraine. Their dirty little paws are everywhere.

Japan has NO CHOICE in that they are subservient to the US, just as Europe is. They will disarm and leave themselves exposed, or they will lose the protection of the US.

And like Europe and the US, once this Ukraine crap is over, and the Neocons are properly spanked - Japan will tell the US to F-Off and will again be a military power.

...and so was it such a good idea by the Neocons to cause the war in Ukraine by goading Russia? I don’t think so, but others may think differently.

Actually, Japan is conducting its largest military build-up since WWII that “will make the country the world’s third-biggest military spender”.

“TOKYO, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Japan on Friday unveiled its biggest military build-up since World War Two with a $320 billion plan that will buy missiles capable of striking China and ready it for sustained conflict, as regional tensions and Russia’s Ukraine invasion stoke war fears.

The sweeping, five-year plan, once unthinkable in pacifist Japan, will make the country the world’s third-biggest military spender after the United States and China, based on current budgets.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who described Japan and its people as being at a “turning point in history”, said the ramp-up was “my answer to the various security challenges that we face”.

His government worries that Russia has set a precedent that will encourage China to attack Taiwan, threatening nearby Japanese islands, disrupting supplies of advanced semiconductors and putting a potential stranglehold on sea lanes that supply Middle East oil.”

“His government worries that Russia has set a precedent that will encourage China to attack Taiwan”

Well your Neocon friends sure as hell didn’t help the Taiwan situation. It’s almost like the Neocons WANT China to attack Taiwan.

...the question is why? Perhaps a new superpower war excites the Neocons? If not, then why are the practically BEGGING China to attack Taiwan.

It is great for America that Japan is getting closer to us and our Pacific allies and building up its military.

This invasion by Russia is really helping us all prepare better for the China threat and Russia.
