i looked this up when all this started cuz i was hearing both
inbev owns modelo
they dont own modelo
i may be fuzzy on this but what i recall is inbev bought modelo but as part of the deal they had to give up the us sales of modelo
i believe us sales are constellation(?) brands not part of inbev
anyone else read this?
As of 13 Jun 2023, Anheuser-Busch InBev owns Modelo beer in Mexico and the rest of the world, except in the US, where it is owned by Constellation Brands.1 In 2013, AB InBev took full control of Grupo Modelo and agreed with US antitrust regulators to sell the Mexican company's business in the US to Constellation.02 However, AB InBev retained the rights to Modelo brands.
So, Inbev retains the rights to Modelo Brands. Inbev licenses the brand (for big $$$) to Constellation Brands in the US.
Back to my original post: I incorrectly stated Inbev owns both Budweiser and Modelo. They do not. They license the brand to Constellation Brands for a fee.
If that licensing fee is based on sales, then yes -- boycotting Modelo would hurt Inbev's bottom line (also Constellation Brands, too bad so sad.)
I think that about covers it, would you agree or disagree?
Yes, you are right. In the US, Modelo is distributed by Constellation.
The local Anheiser Busch distributor has a big Modelo neon sign on the building along with Bud and Bud Light
