North Dakota's governor talked about his campaign for president of the United States, and touched on other issues including AI.
North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" over the noonhour today, Monday, June 12.
In the segment with hosts Demarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim, Burgum talked about his run for president of the United States and why Republicans should consider nominating him to lead the party.
Burgum announced his candidacy last Wednesday in Fargo and has since s pent a couple of days campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire, two early caucus and primary states in the nominating process.
In the "Good Morning America" segment shot outside the Jasper Hotel in downtown Fargo, the governor also touched on the classified documents indictment against former President Donald Trump, abortion and his views on artificial intelligence technology.
When host Eva Pilgrim asked the governor, who is a former software executive, his views on rapid new advances in AI, he discussed the technology in terms of national security and competition.
“Anybody that says that we ought to stop developing AI would be like saying back during the 1980s that we should stop trying to win the nuclear arms race against Russia,” Burgum said. “This is going to be an important tool. America has the lead. We've got to continue to fight for the lead.”
Burgum said the U.S. needs to remain a leader in technology to ensure the country has an edge over rivals like China and called for fewer regulatory barriers to innovation.
On the issue of the 37-count federal indictment against former president Trump last week, Burgum said voters he has talked to are concerned the Department of Justice is using a “double standard” when it comes to enforcing the nation’s laws.
“They're concerned that we have lost trust in our institutions” he said. “If we don't believe that the DOJ is going to enforce the laws equally between the two political parties, that's even more serious than the charges themselves."
Burgum endorsed Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections. Asked if he would support Trump again, Burgum said he would support whoever the Republican nominee is in 2024 because he believes the Biden administration is taking the country in the wrong direction.
What the governor told hosts largely aligns with what he has been saying over the campaign trail, where he has been spreading a pro-business, pro-energy and national security-focused message which downplays divisive cultural issues.
During his GMA interview Monday, Burgum told hosts that while he signed strict abortion restrictions into law earlier this year, he would leave the issue to the states, consistent with his message so far in other public appearances and interviews.
Is he willing to clean house in DC like Trump is?
Who?? Never heard of this jamoke!
It’s chilly in the winter
When did Trump ever clean house? He started out with Rance Priebus as his chief of staff, then packed his administration with RINOs. In what way did he ever clean house?
More cows than people. Dark, dark winters. Very harsh place to live.
But they have plenty of oil and there are lots of very rich men, still Carhartt overalls, driving big ol’ diesel pickups, that still show up at the local diner for their very early morning coffee and breakfast, before they go back to the farm to take care of some cows.

IMHO President Trump has learned a valuable lesson. He is campaigning on cleaning house in DC. What other candidate has said that they will also do it?
“he has been spreading a pro-business, pro-energy and national security-focused message”
I also support those things.
When? He had four years, and he just kept putting RINOs in roles. Endorsing Romneys. Earlier this year he endorses McConnell and McCarthy. Last week, he said Cuomo handled COVID-19 well.
When are you going to stop voting for the deep state?
Who is this person that I should be voting for, that is going to clean up Washington DC?
I hope we find someone.
“I hope we find someone.”
So, you do not have anybody else in mind.
It’s still early, we need to find someone.
When did Trump ever clean house?

Yes, he made sure the Office of the Ushers and GSA kept the White House spotless.
The rest of the time he just ran his mouth about draining the swamp as he hired losers to add to it.
