Not really. It is a safe bet Ukraine has made small advances in two or three places on the first Russian defense line.
Commentators are over analyzing what is available. Ukrainian sources have gone OPSEC. Pro-Russian sources are flooding social media about the Ukraine column that got destroyed and the best face on what they are getting. Ukrainian sources are talking about the big picture to avoid violating OPSEC.
This is not the Gulf or Iraq wars where the US dominated and the news rode along to watch. Information from both sides is controlled. It will take days or weeks before any really reliable information is reported and there is a good idea of how this is playing out.
This is an interesting response. The first phrase above is spot on. As one watches the salvos fired back and forth between Freepers, so much seems to depend "on what you think."
The remainder of the quote above is also interesting, as the several Freepers posting daily their same favorite source all rely on generally anonymous sources, as one cannot validate the claims made unless one first has the predilection to "think" in that direction. One when the admission was teased out of him testified to this. A favorite site, and working hard to garner subscribers and sell merch.
As to "high level anonymous sources leaking privileged information," this is the form as we read in so much "news" today. Unnamed sources. On condition of anonymity. That's all over the place.
And lastly what is also interesting is the mention of "low ranked websites," as if the whole event is about ranking and, echoing Al Gore, consensus.
This modern era, even in the "reporting from Ukraine," seems about messaging first. And last. In time war will come to some conclusion. Some of us wait to learn what that is, when that is.
