Pure LSD was not easy to get after the late 1960s, by 1970 or so LSD was going downhill in quality.

Sandoz was the lab that manufactured ampules of LSD, I have heard that it was fairly easy to come by but it was so pure that dosing was often overdone and many people suffered terrible hallucinationgenic experiences as a result.

Larry Hagman the actor swore up and down that if it wasn’t for LSD he probably would have died an alcoholic because LSD was used as a drug to counter the desire to consume alcohol.

There’s been some talk as of late regarding the use of hallucinogenics for treating certain mental disorders, I’m sure they would be at a therapeutic dose rather than an overdose but, there is no prophylaxis fi3r LSD, yet it it is probably still contracted for very limited production rates and used strictly in research.
