If this was the US, it would be 150 billion for the same number of refugees.

Cheap as chips. Our Ukrainian guests were legally working after 2 months and are now claiming nothing from the state at all. Got their own rented flat, and working to pay for it. We got £390 a month for 4 months as their hosts, to cover their food, clothes (they arrived with nothing), translation services, and English language tests.

Our government is paying £200 a NIGHT to put OTHER asylum seekers who’re not from Ukraine up in hotels - with additional food vouchers - for up to 18 months while processing their claims. During which time they’re not allowed to work.

And if they don’t like the decision at the end they can appeal it over and over again.

It costs ten times as much as the Ukrainian scheme to use the dumbass “we hate immigrants but will put them up in hotels on full board preventing them from working for 1-2 years before maybe deporting them” set-up instead.

That’s funny. Hundreds of thousands of people are coming across our border, and you’re complaining about Ukrainians in the UK.

The point is, only a retard thinks the sole solution to this problem is, building a bloody wall.

The UK is a fricking ISLAND. A 26 mile wide moat is a lot better than a wall. But even that doesn’t work.

Because illegals and illegals, desirables and undesirables, holidaymakers, short term contractors and seasonal workers all arrive the same way. By boat, plane, or channel tunnel.

To stop illegals getting into the country, you need to work out who you DO want to let in, and process them before they travel, ie before they even leave their country of origin.

You then need to monitor those who’re only supposed to be in the country for a finite period of time.

My wife is British. She was speaking with her mom (who's still living in Britain) via telephone today and her mom was mightily pissed off that "asylum" seekers are currently holding a protest in front of a hotel some of them are housed in because a few of them had to double room.

I told my wife about your experience, showed her your comment and she laughed saying, "No way could foreigners with no money and limited or no English language skills find jobs, save enough money to pay rental deposits and rent, (the cheapest dump available in the worst areas are still costing ~1000 Pounds per month and would be very small), pay extremely high utility costs (and deposits), find a place to rent (references?) and learn enough English to get by - all within arriving from a war-torn nation two months prior with nothing of their own. And that doesn't account for the time it would take people who've experienced the traumas of war and displacement to settle down and find their "sea legs" in a foreign country.

How were they able to be background checked to rent an apartment or house, (who was there guarantor? credit checks? character references?) get bank accounts, acquire utilities and all the rest without substantial government or private financial assistance? My wife cannot believe it - she says it would be impossible without heavy government assistance. As a Brit who lived most of her life outside of London she says, "No way."

You’re either lying or your mother in law is as thick as mince and living in London.

It’s easy.

£350/month where I live will get you a decent one bedroom flat, five minutes’ walk from an industrial estate with several manufacturing/processing companies that are always looking for labor.

At £10 an hour, our guest worked 50 hours a week for 2 months. £3000 in the bank, enough for a month’s rent in advance + deposit.

I offered to be guarantor for the first 3 months. Landlord was happy. Didn’t need it, but it de-risked the tenancy.

Our guests included one who’s a bit remedial in English but took courses, his partner speaks five languages including English fluently. She’s now earning a decent wage as a translator.

Annndddd. . . another unprovoked insult from a Youkazoid! Mods, please take note. Thank you.

I respectfully questioned aspects of your comment and you reflexively hurled an insult at me by insinuating that my mother-in-law is either retarded or I am liar. Ugh.

Classic. Youkazoid. Behavior.

Fact: the lowest rental average in all of the UK is in the NE and that comes in at 635 Pounds per month. The total average rental cost in all of the UK is currently 1,199 Pounds. That being said, I now believe you're just a pedestrian Youkazoid who's making things up out of whole cloth to "prove" to folks on FR how wonderful and industrious Youcraynians are, even though based on my manifold, direct experiences with many of them (and many Russians too who were just as deceptive, coarse and conniving) they are anything but.
