Ukraine's Major General Andrey Kovalchuk, the former commander of November's Kherson Counteroffensive, tells The Post how he intended to blow up the dam.
"Kovalchuk considered flooding the river," The Post writes. "The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dnieper's water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages. The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort.

I just watched a video of the dam that blew, as well as satellite photos.
Although I’ve heard this nowhere, it is obvious what happened.
The Russians had heavily mined the waters above the dam to stop the Ukrainians from crossing.
The water levels in the lake were the highest ever. For some reason the Russians were not opening the gates allowing the water levels to be stable.
They finally opened the gates and the high water level combined with the increased current when they opened the gates caused the mines from the lake to break loose and drift into the dam, exploding and destroying the dam.
In the video I watched after the dam had blown, there were a series on continuous underwater explosions at the dam as additional mines continued to drift into the dam and explode.
It was Russian stupidity that blew up the dam!
If even remotely true, could we expect to see Putin replacing military leadership in the area?
Since the pathetic, mostly nonexistent Ukrainian offensive has turned out to be little more than a fart in the wind... Biden's puppet regime needed some other gimmick to assure Western financing. Most “leaders” other than Lindsey Graham want to see more than faked Russian body count numbers; they want results from the Zelensky government, or he is going to find himself thrown under the bus.

After US Navy Seals blew up the Nord Stream pipelines the same officials had intelligence that was leaning towards the Russians being the perpetrators as well.

This conflict reaches new levels of propaganda each and every day.
Simple stupidity does rule the world, so I would not completely rule out your explanation. However, mines are anchored with steel cables and are unlikely to drift anywhere because of increased current and higher water levels. If specially trained individuals swam under the water and cut the cables then maybe, but then the mines would be floating at the surface. Did you see any mines floating at the surface in the videos that you watched? The devil is always in the details.

As the Ukraine-Russia war continues with its many events, it is interesting how, here on Free Republic threads, the war is being "fought" by competing messages. Probably of little effect in the overall scheme of things, but interesting nonetheless....
Yep, if our Space "Program" was as advanced as our Disinformation and Propaganda Program, we'd be cruising around several Galaxies by now.

Yes, it is currently nearly impossible to discern reality from disinformation. Propaganda is nothing new but the way that new technology and communications media are being employed are way beyond what could have been imagined even 20 years ago. It has gotten completely out of hand. Look at the daily fights we have around here over nonsense.
