Putting people sick with Covid-19(84) into nursing homes was one of the stupidest ideas I’d ever heard of.
We all knew THEN that the elderly and the weak were the most likely to succumb.
I always thought it was criminal, frankly.
I have asthma, and I pay attention to situations that can aggravate it.
It also made no sense to me knowing that the elderly have chronic respiratory issues.
Just getting enough fresh air in their lungs is a challenge, especially when mobility challenged.
But with the Feds pays $25,000+ for every intubation, it made sense.
And having a fully equipped medical ship in the harbor of NYC that wasn’t used once by city officials ...
Tells us all we need to know.
He/they all should be sued for both criminal and professional misconduct re ignoring or suppressing information on virus transmission mechanisms as well as reckless endangerment of the patients and nursing home/staff people.
Time to do it is now.
Should be a major Trump re-election issue, 24/7.
What happened here is a curious thing. You had retirement homes which were functional like a regular hospital. The governor signs a paper, giving them status to take regular sick people...meaning the daily cost can go up.
Retirement home daily cost was in the $200 to $250 range (mostly), but hospital room cost was in the $1,200 to $1,500 range.
So if you had 30 rooms out of your 300-room facility open....you were suddenly taking in $45,000 a day on what were empty rooms, instead of $7,500.
I had some NY nurse explain the gimmick to me about six weeks into the ‘game’. She figured per month for one facility....the owners were clearing half-a-million extra on revenue. Unethical as hell, but no one seemed to worry about an investigation. Had to be a lot of money being shared out.
In March of 2020 Trump had CMS change its Medicare regs to allow nursing homes the ability to refuse to take back sick residents from the hospital.
In May of 2020, Cuomo ordered them sent back in spite of that.
Nursing homes in the state complied.
Even though, thanks to Trump’s changes in federal regs, they could now refuse.
Why did nursing homes do that?
Rumor is it that Albany threatened non-compliant facilities with threats of increased inspection/regulation/decreased funding.
If anyone ever wants to take a good look at what really happened and why, I can tell them where to start: Steuben County, NY.
Hint, hint...
