Video shows breach of dam at Ukraine’s Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant
welp.
SURFS UP
This is a serious development.
I wonder what the pool elevation was compared to the river ...
I suppose this is going to put a lot of people in the dark. A lot of hard days ahead. A lot of suffering.
Not a good day.
That will make a river crossing downstream much more difficult.
back and forth speculation as to who did it and why
some saying Ukraine did it since the left bank (Russian side) is lower and it will flood out Russian positions
But a few claiming that’s crazy because it will empty out the reservoir which may cause issues for the cooling of the nuclear plant up north
I hope the nuclear plant at Zaphorizhzia can operate with low water levels.

If they want to cancel the “Spring offensive” this will give them the excuse.
Is this what happens when the Big Guy doesn’t get his 10% ?
Don’t know who did what, but it seems like Russia has tried not to destroy infrastructure so far. (I doubt they blew the pipeline either)
Seymour Hersh provided the evidence we blew Nord Stream.
Also, draining that lake will make it far easier to cross the Dnipro upstream...where Russian defenses are sure to be less prepared and less dense.
just eye balling the structure, I would say that water level is going to drop a good 60 feet.
My bet is they shut the plant down.
I think this helps Russia ... don't see much up side for Ukraine.
I think Putin may have gotten tired of waiting for the Ukraine offensive and just said .... Let's get it on...
But hard to tell...

To give people an idea of the size of the Kakhovka Reservoir, the next dam upstream is in Zaporizhzhia.

Most of the land on the south bank of the river will be flooded. Between that and the upper reservoir turning into a mud flat, it basically ends any threat of a Ukrainian amphibious assault across the Dnipro.
Thanks for that link ...good stuff ...good job

The Russian Military is claiming that Ukrainian Armed Force conducted an Attack against the Nova Kakhovka Dam in the Kherson Region a few hours ago with almost the Entire Dam as well as the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant being Destroyed in the process; throughout the length of the War both the Ukrainian and Russian Governments have been claiming that each other were going to Destroy the Dam due to its Strategic Importance in Crimea who is reliant on the Dam for its Fresh-Water Supply and Downstream in the Kherson Region which now has multiple Settlements that are “At Risk” or are Flooding.
