To get into it you have to be prolific and hit big tweets when they break pithy or witty it seems

You are right, a tweet at the right time - usually a quick witty reply to a major account - can get you a few hundred thousand views.
What's weird is I'll put out a well written tweet that I thought hard about and it will get no action at all. But an off the cuff tweet sometimes goes viral.
