The way it works is they put in the red light camera and then shorten the yellow time which increases the revenue which is the whole point of these things.
A couple times a year, I visit my family up in Delaware and SE PA. And just about everytime. I come home to a beautiful pic of my pickup’s license plate. With a nice little ‘civil’ violation for running a red light in Delaware or speeding on the PA turnpike. I go with the flow. So yes. This is a major cash cow and should be illegal. And I tell my folks, this and other reasons are why I like Texas!
In Mexico a lot of towns have a setup where the green light will flash for 20 seconds or so before the yellow. That gives you plenty of time to decide whether you’ll have to stop. I really liked it and wish that U.S. lights worked like that.
Around here a yellow light means floor it, and it’s common to see cars going through intersections at 50 or better a couple of seconds into the red. If I’m the first car waiting to go at a cross street, I’ll take a good look both ways before moving after I get the green, including a check for pedestrians.
