Mere hours following the conclusion of the regular legislative session, Gov. Greg Abbott announced the start of a special legislative session on property tax relief and border security.
“Many critical items remain that must be passed. Several special sessions will be required. To ensure that each priority receives the time and attention it deserves to pass into law, only a few will be added each session,” said Abbott, indicating that multiple special sessions will be required.
Special Session #1 agenda items include:
PROPERTY TAXES: Legislation to cut property-tax rates solely by reducing the school district maximum compressed tax rate in order to provide lasting property-tax relief for Texas taxpayers.
BORDER SECURITY: Legislation solely for the purpose of increasing or enhancing the penalties for certain criminal conduct involving the smuggling of persons or the operation of a stash house.
The property tax call is notable in that it reject both the House and Senate approaches to relief, which focused on appraisal caps and homestead exemptions respectively.
The border security call also does not include language regarding a border protection unit, which has been the focus of many border security advocates. Abbott’s call says the session begins at 9pm on Monday evening. Both chambers are expected to convene tomorrow morning to begin work.
No! No special sessions.
They just had their time to push wokeness and steal everything they could.
Texas property taxes are statewide—in most of the rest of the country they are local so each locality needs to be evaluated on its own merits.
Years ago that gave Texas a big advantage throughout the state—now that asset is turning into a liability.
The income tax was a big deal pre-retirement.
Now we can control our income to meet our expenses—that plus the social security exemption from state income taxes means that they are not a significant factor.
I ran all the numbers...
Abbott is a fraud, playing for the other side.

“Abbott is a man of action.”
Compared to what?
“Abbott is a man of action.”
Compared to what?
So where did you move to?
Compared to what?
Compared to the Republican controlled legislature which punted on both issues.
We stayed put—deep in enemy territory—CT.
Our tiny rural town is great—we know everybody and have our cost of living under control.
Tell me I’m lying!
Also black bear. Thunderchickens, and trash pandas do alot of damage.
You forgot the Jack-a-lopes and Chupakabra. Damn jackalopes eat up your garden and the chupakabra will eat your dogs and chickens.
And owls. Watched a great horned owl take a cat once. Also got knocked in the head by a barred owl while in my climbing stand.
You left out the humidity.
And tornadoes ( been through 4) and hail.
And armadillos are prone to carry leprosy.
And had a shrew hanging off a cats face once.
Moles will tear up a yard.
And the birds that eat the wild berries and crap on your vehicle. It will ruin the paint.
We have more wild birds than any other state.
And Johnson grass sucks.
