Trump Critics Need to Stop Complaining about 'Baggage': He was a great president and deserves better.
American Thinker ^ | 05/29/2023 | Rajan Laad

The criticisms that some conservative critics of President Trump have is that he had too much "baggage."

The "baggage" is Trump's confrontational style, his "mean" social media posts, and the myriad "scandals" during his administration. They complain that Trump's "baggage" makes him impossible to defend. They complain that Trump often invites trouble.

In Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, they think they have their ideal candidate: someone who purportedly stands for the MAGA agenda but is devoid of "baggage."

So does the "baggage" make Trump a target?

The eminent thinker and military historian Victor David Hanson enumerated the "baggage" that President Trump doesn't have but the Democrats do.

1) Trump did not violate federal law, as did Hillary Clinton, by destroying federally subpoenaed emails and devices in order to hide evidence.

2) Trump did not violate federal law, as did Hillary Clinton, by sending classified government communications on her own, through an unsecured home-brewed server.

3) Trump did not violate federal law, as did Hillary Clinton, by hiring a foreign national, who is prohibited from working on presidential campaigns, to compile a dossier to smear her presidential opponent.

4) Trump did not violate federal campaign laws, as did Hillary Clinton, by hiding her payments (as "legal services") to Christopher Steele through bookkeeping deceptions.

5) Trump did not, as did Bill Clinton, use a crony to search out a high-paying New York job for a paramour in order to influence her testimony before a special counsel.

6) Trump did not, as did Bill Clinton, receive a $500,000 "honorarium" for speaking in Moscow while his wife, our secretary of state, approved a longstanding and lucrative desire of the Kremlin for North American uranium to be sold to a Russian consortium.

Why are you omitting the massive voter fraud with bogus Mail-In Ballots and Dominion voting machines that flipped winning Trump votes to Biden in six swing states?

If we have a credible candidate, yes, we can. That’s no longer Trump, he’s simply a bull in a china shop at this point, destroying the Republican party, splitting voters, all while Republicans in congress sell out Americans.

I love the man, will go to bat for him. He set this country straight and should again.

He has my vote.

He’s also kinda weird.

My first comment:

Running against Hillary Clinton, Donald J. Trump won, because people voted more against Clinton, than for Trump.

In my second comment, I wrote that Trump lost the people who . . . I did not say Trump lost because:

Running against Joe Biden, Donald J. Trump lost the people who had voted against Hillary. And, Trump’s putative Twitter record, also accounts for some of Trump losing some of the prior anti-Hillary vote.

Trump won 46.1% of the popular vote in 2016.

Trump won 46.8% of the popular vote in 2020.

Excellent posts.

Adding since 2010 the GOP is up 500 elected offices-
at or near records goveernorships, state legislatures, House seats, SCOTUS with Senate seats not that far away.

I challenge anyone to find a better endorsement record on ballotpedia. I don’t think one exists.

This is besides doing the impossible of winning the nomination and then the election.

The single most important thing was he created contrast after years and years of we must move to the middle.

Without a third term to hold over his head and his prior experience expecting less is dumb.

Lastly, Ronald Reagan was the single most popular POTUS of most American’s lifetimes-the GOP never once ran a candidate with even remotely the same ideals. Thinking a DeSantis will keep MAGA going is like thinking Bush would continue the Reagan revolution-the opposition approved candidate ain’t doing that.

“Trump got 11 million MORE votes in 2020 than he did in 2016.”

This is the culture of losing. By the above logic, Biden got even more than Hillary from 16 to 2020.

4 more years of Lord Fauci, Tillerson, Esper and Wray.

The culture of losing like going 27-0 in House toss ups in 2020 incl the exiting of Donna Shalala?

another 12 months of what has largely been winning called losing-yay.

Are you blinded by love? The midterm was a complete freaking disaster. Midterms are supposed to be huge wins for the Party not in power. It did create more losing culture and cries of cheating though. yay.

As he was in 2016 and 2020, which he won.

When was the Constitution amended to make the popular vote relevant? I must’ve slept through that.

The only thing that matters is the FBI, CIA and the DOJ conspired to overthrow the Trump administration with fake "Russia Collusion". Everything else is trivial.

Re-elect Trump or lose the republic FOREVER.

You could say the same about Zelenskyy. Totally not the establishment’s idea of who should’ve won, therefore they obsessed about his media career, his camp sketches, and who funded him.

The fact that the Ukrainian population rejected the Putin stooge and the far right stooge in favor of a Russian speaking Jewish non politician got buried.

If FBI,CIA and DOJ conspired to overthrow Trump while he was in the White House, does anyone think they’re going to let him waltz back in the front door knowing he’ll be on a mission to take them out? I don’t know what the alternative is, but Trump isn’t winning in 2024 with Biden’s FBI, CIA and DOJ in charge.

If the democrats can hang baggage on a guy and then get his own side to turn against him on account of all the baggage, I’d say they should just keep it up.

There are no other options. If Trump fails then the Deep State owns all of us.
