The auditorium at Nathan Eckstein Junior High (now a middle school) in Wedgwood is standing-room only in October 1970 for a discussion of a proposal to bus 1,500-2,000 North End and Central Area students in order to desegregate the new Edmond S. Meany Middle School on Capitol Hill. Another 400 people in the lunchroom listened via loudspeakers as Superintendent Forbes Bottomly, left, school district attorney Gary M. Little fielded questions and comments. (Larry Dion / The Seattle Times, 1970)
Asha Mohamed, an immigrant from Ethiopia, from left, and her daughter Hikma walk with Laura Stowell and her daughter Ella while giving a tour of West Seattle’s High Point neighborhood. The girls are students at West Seattle Elementary, and the school’s attendance boundary overlaps with the 1936 redlining area. (Erika Schultz / The Seattle Times)
When Laura Stowell was first looking for a home in Seattle, real estate agents would often refer to areas that had “better schools,” she said. But the Boston transplant chafed at the idea of shopping for the best classroom. At one point she was the only white parent on her block who sent their kid to West Seattle Elementary, she said. A growing number of parents, mostly white, are taking the same stance as Stowell, said Katy Strange, who heads the local chapter of Integrated Schools, a national organization that encourages affluent parents to enroll their kids in racially diverse schools close to home. The parents discuss the latest research on integration, and how they can contribute to their schools without disrupting the culture that already exists there.

Don’t forget commiecrat “leadership”!
“Short answer: The reason is high crime and BLM.”
Next step is county-wide busing. And, if that doesn’t work, then bussing at the state level.
All our friends (and us) specified "good schools" when looking at homes. Liberals really hate their kids and consider them social experiments...
My DIL, born 1971, attended public school in Seattle until sixth grade but then the busing started and the lib parents put her in private school. Likely this happened with a lot of white parents who could afford it.
Seattle does not have a huge minority population but there are some very bad areas in Seattle. South of Seattle there are areas where all the signage is in another language and no one seems to speak English.
Well said. They are also in the front of the drag queen shows with their kids.
“chafed at the idea of shopping for the best classroom”
So the doofus parent didn’t choose the best public school possible for her kids?
Another sacrifice to Moloch.
Dallas bused kids back and forth across the city in ‘72. What a horrible decision. Our school had to lock kids in their classrooms and pull down metal gates blocking halls during class. Uh, yeah, so much for fire codes. We weren’t allowed in the hallways during class but one time I was called to go somewhere and was immediately accosted in the stairwell and another time a guy tried to pull crap on me in the middle of class. Not surprising, my family was part of the white flight outta that hell hole. I lived 4 houses from school but wasn’t going to be allowed to go there until 12th grade.
Around 10 years ago, I drove past my old school and neighborhood but there wasn’t a single white, Hispanic or Asian student. Yeah, so much for diversity. It had been a great school but today’s test scores are way below average.
Let’s visit Laura Stowell’s daughter in a few years and see how she’s made out being a lily White girl in majority black middle and high schools.
Just wait until Laura decides her XX child should be a boy.
They are working on the “final solution” which is to send whites to concentration camps.
Clearly this Leftist Disciple hasn’t learned anything from analyzing what’s happening here in IL with CPS. Probably didn’t even think of it.
From the article:
“At one point she was the only white parent on her block who sent their kid to West Seattle Elementary, she said.”
So, basically she’s retar...I mean she has significantly reduced mental capacity.
And forty million low-skill immigrants overwhelming our education system, don’t forget that.
Why? Democrat are in charge.
Democrats have been on the wrong side of most issues for decades. However, today’s Democrat Party is so far whacked out that JFK couldn’t win the Illinois Primary.
