My son and his wife used to live in Baltimore. Went to visit them and we drove up to D.C. to the mall to look around and that was enough for me to feel hemmed in. Anyplace you have to pre-rent a parking place has too many people trying to survive against each other.
By growing up in a ranching community and working with your neighbors to accomplish your life seems more like the old days when life was easier and more flexible. Too many cooks spoil the broth. You can have Broadway, we have Disneyland. Toss up.

It wouldn’t cost me a flat dime to pee on Lindsay’s grave.
While I was still working, I used to go to D.C. periodically to do research at the National Archives, and the Library of Congress. I used to stay with a friend who lived in Clinton, Maryland, and drive into D.C every day. I haven’t been there since I retired in 2003. I did enjoy doing historical research there, but not enough to have to put up with the traffic, or parking. Back around 1995, I had a D.C. bus run into the driver’s side of my car, taking my side mirror, and denting the door. It was pouring outside. The driver never even looked to see I was in the lane right next to him before he decided to move over into it. I hit my horn, but he just continued coming into my lane. He did stop around the corner, and we exchanged info. I was going to call the cops, but he told me not bother, because they don’t respond unless someone is hurt.
“they don’t respond”
A lot like most of our elected officials there. They never respond to anything intelligent either.
