Tell that to the widows of B-52 airmen shot down by Soviet SAM 2’s over Vietnam.
These weapons were given to the North Vietnamese commies at no charge and shipped in via Chicom railways, airports via Soviet cargo aircraft and ports visited by Soviet merchant vessels.
Funny how we didn’t make the Soviets targets of anything.

“According to Vietnam’s official statistics, between 1955 and 1975, the Soviet Union provided Vietnam with, among other things, 1,357 missile launching systems, more than 18,300 missiles of different types, 316 fighter jets, 52 warships, 21 transportation ships, 687 tanks, 601 armored vehicles and 1,332 artillery tractors.”
At least 3,000 fighting men too.
