CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Memorial Day weekend marks the first major test for Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Memorial Day weekend last year was filled with violence with nearly 50 people shot.
This year with a new leader in place, Mayor Brandon Johnson has a new plan in place, vowing it will be different this year.
Johnson said a $2.5 million investment from the Partnership for Safe and Peaceful Communities' eighth annual Chicago Fund is part of the plan.
The public-private partnership will support violence prevention and youth outreach efforts across the city by funding the work of 253 grassroots organizations working across 24 communities on the South and West sides.
City officials are still asking residents and visitors to stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess it will be worse…
When I moved to Illinois in 1994, both cars got registered with plates starting with “KGD.” A local cop told me “Ah, I see you got one of those Kill Gangster Disciples plates.
Whatever happened to midnight basketball? I thought that was supposed to keep peace in the hood.
There's a lot of heat (from the pampered minority community) that results from a "get-tough" policy and this mayor would fold like a cheap suit.
Per heyjackass.com for Lightfoot Era (5/20/19 – 5/15/23)
Shot & Killed: 2,683
Shot & Wounded: 12,508
Total Shot: 15,191
Total Homicides: 2,945
Those numbers ought be up on billboards...
My thought was, "What's he smoking"?
That’s a lot of money that’s going to line someone’s pocket and produce NO results.
Betcha the weekend is worse than ever.
It’s going to beautiful weather this weekend.
They Morlocks will be out in force.
L
public-private partnership ...... code words for “my relatives are going to get rich.”
Almost every billboard in the Chicago area has a picture of Brian Urlacher with hair on his head selling a miracle cure. Breaking into that monopoly would require a lot of money.
Only one comment required-—————Lets Go Brandon! And y’all thought groot was bad as ‘mare’. Hold his budlight!
After the new mayor takes his skim, and after the department heads take their skim, there will be enough money to buy a hot dog and maybe a reporter to gaslight the public on the success of the program once it is revealed that more people were shot than last year.
“The public-private partnership will support violence prevention and youth outreach efforts across the city by funding the work of 253 grassroots organizations working across 24 communities on the South and West sides.”
These grassroots organization benefit from a higher level of crime because the more crime there is the more their “services” are needed and the more funds are thrown at them.
So the idiot mayor by throwing $2.5 millions only incentivizes them to do nothing.
What’s the Over/Under?
It's a 3-day holiday weekend. Caesars shot book has it at 56 1/2.
Payoffs and kickbacks for 253 grassroots organizations.
