DeSantis was thanking Dr. Birx for highlighting his approach of focusing Covid testing on FLA nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Contrast that to the Cuomo approach of mandating those facilities take in Covid patients resulting in thousands of deaths.
The comments to his tweet are interesting and confirm DeSantis was ‘going against the grain’ with his approach to the pandemic. The fact he was recently reelected by a wide margin afterwards speaks for itself.
In Florida re: the county health officer “This position is appointed by the State Surgeon General and Secretary of the Department of Health after the concurrence of the local governing body.”
Dr. Alonso is now retired. She was with Palm Beach County Health Department since 1989 and was made director in 2009. In 2009 the governor of Florida was Charlie Crist.
So explain how this physician was DeSantis’ very own health doctor.

He had the direct authority to lockdown his state and he did - Kristi Noem on the other hand stood staunchly against lockdowns

DeSantis or Trump who did nothing about Fauci, Birx and others that he refused to fire and allowed them to kill thousands of Americans? Your bitching about something DeSantis said at the start but give Trump a pass? Maybe the crazy one is you?
That’s a rather innocuous quote to make that big a deal out of where he is responding to something Dr. Birx said, which the article is not including.
However, DeSantis is changing his narrative, which I have pointed out before is indeed disingenuous, as a way to try to damage Trump - this will not ultimately help him. It is self defeating as he had a very good record with battling COVID thanks to his leadership - a record which he could have campaigned on as a testament to his leadership, but instead believes trying to attack Trump is the better course. It makes no sense, and this approach will be his downfall.
