PSA: RON DESANTIS CANNOT HIDE FROM HIS RECORD
—
Ron DeSantis is flailing on the eve of his “big” day. No wonder his billionaire backers are running for the hills—and into the arms of his 2nd place competition. He just isn’t ready for the moment. https://t.co/ne7Mlv4vYR pic.twitter.com/6mlir0QMPF— Taylor Budowich (@TayFromCA) May 23, 2023

His record of conservative victories?
His record of winning elections?
Speaking of records, if you ever decide to donate to MAGA, Inc, make sure you pay attention to the default check boxes. You might end up emptying out whatever legacy you had hoped to pass on to your loved ones. An elderly hospice patient figuratively at the Death’s Door (is there any other kind?) had his bank account zeroed out.
It was a big sum for a 63-year-old battling cancer and living in Kansas City on less than $1,000 per month. But that single contribution — federal records show it was his first ever — quickly multiplied. Another $500 was withdrawn the next day, then $500 the next week and every week through mid-October, without his knowledge — until Mr. Blatt’s bank account had been depleted and frozen. When his utility and rent payments bounced, he called his brother, Russell, for help.
What the Blatts soon discovered was $3,000 in withdrawals by the Trump campaign in less than 30 days. They called their bank and said they thought they were victims of fraud.
“It felt,” Russell said, “like it was a scam.”
But what the Blatts believed was duplicity was actually an intentional scheme to boost revenues by the Trump campaign and the for-profit company that processed its online donations, WinRed. Facing a cash crunch and getting badly outspent by the Democrats, the campaign had begun last September to set up recurring donations by default for online donors, for every week until the election.
Contributors had to wade through a fine-print disclaimer and manually uncheck a box to opt out.]
Post-election, the Trump campaign ended up refunding $64m to unwitting contributors. Turns out the whole post-election “Fight the Fraud” come-ons for small donors was an effort to make Trump’s campaign whole for the over-charges that had already been spent on the election. The donors who had been overcharged needed to be repaid the $64m they had inadvertently given to Trump. Individual contribution limits meant the overcharges weren’t just unethical - they were illegal.
“Bandits!” said Victor Amelino, a 78-year-old Californian, who made a $990 online donation to Mr. Trump in early September via WinRed. It recurred seven more times — adding up to almost $8,000. “I’m retired. I can’t afford to pay all that damn money.”
The sheer magnitude of the money involved is staggering for politics. In the final two and a half months of 2020, the Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee and their shared accounts issued more than 530,000 refunds worth $64.3 million to online donors. All campaigns make refunds for various reasons, including to people who give more than the legal limit. But the sum the Trump operation refunded dwarfed that of Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s campaign and his equivalent Democratic committees, which made 37,000 online refunds totaling $5.6 million in that time.
The recurring donations swelled Mr. Trump’s treasury in September and October, just as his finances were deteriorating. He was then able to use tens of millions of dollars he raised after the election, under the guise of fighting his fraud claims, to help cover the refunds he owed.]
The question has to be asked - could Trump, as a billionaire several times over, have reached into his own pocket for the $64m he overcharged his supporters, and spared them the angst of having to deal with credit card companies and credit bureaus to reverse those charges? If he lacked the cash, could he have taken out a low-interest loan until post-election contributions plugged the gap? Sure. But he chose not to. And that is another aspect of Trump’s personality that people need to know about. It’s not just ex-wives he screws over.
LOL! Thanks for posting that! “Vaccines are safe and effective...get your vaccine and you won’t get Covid.” “The party’s over.”
He’s been trying to take Trump down since 2015?
I don’t think I’d want to hear Ron DeSantis’ music, either….
No, because we have slavish sycophants for a man now. Not a country, for a man.
You mean barely winning elections:
DeSantis: 4,076,186
Gillum: 4,043,723
Oh please, DeSantis was still an unknown then. Look at his re-election for how people think he’s doing.
I have no dog in this fight, I want a choice, and I’m tired of both Trump and DeSantis trying to tear the other down. It’s gotten to the point, where I am considering throwing my support to Ramaswamy.
Trump campaign and allies refund $122M to WinRed donors: Report
Well then vote for Tim Scott, or Asa Hutchinson, Chris Christy, or RFK, why don't you?
That's just it, Trump and DeSantis are the only two I would consider voting for out of that bunch.
Twitter, linking to MSNBC and Willie Geist?
LOL, the Trumpers are beyond desperate. This should qualify as a pathetic vanity.
He hasn't run for re-election. He's been in the Governor's office for 4 years, since 2019. He's still in his first term.
The people he’s aligned himself with them. He knows exactly what’s going on
Well, then you have a conundrum on your hands. For me, I will vote for the man who my enemies have been trying to destroy for the past 7+ years. He sure as hell still has them scared.
Barely winning is still winning.
In 2016, Trump barely won against the most corrupt and unpopular presidential candidate a party has ever fielded.
In 2020 he lost to a potato.
If Trump were competent, that logic would make sense. But since Trump often appears as an out of control madman, he is often opposed for that, as much or more than being seen as competent implementing policy they oppose.
