Former President Donald Trump was ripped by some on social media and questioned by others after a bizarre Truth Social post in which he appeared to criticize Ron DeSantis shortly after the Republican Florida governor launched his bid for president.
“‘Rob,’ My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working (TRUTH!), yours does not! (per my conversation with Kim Jung Un, of North Korea, soon to become my friend!),” read Trump’s baffling post on Wednesday.
The post was later shared by the Trump campaign in an email to supporters.

What is Trump talking about?
To: Timber Rattler
I don’t really like it but it’s not baffling.

This is not news. It happened. It worked. Trump handled North Korea and China well.

Red button is probably a double entendre here - you press the red button to record, so he’s poking fun at RDS’s Twitter glitch. Red Button could also be code for the nuclear launch button. And Red Button could also refer to the size of his base (and/or his campaign button). Among other allusions. Maybe he likes Comedy and has some Red Buttons paintings.
The NK remark is a little more oblique, a reference to Trump’s detente policy with NK during his term and to RDS’ lack of foreign experience.
I agree this post strays from Trump’s usual directness.

Trump is a buffoon. He lost the election and he doesn’t get a do-over. We appreciate his four year term in office, but now he needs to go away.

Actually, since he hasn’t served two terms yet, he does, whether you like it or not.

Who's we? Do you have a rat in your pocket? Or do you presume to speak for everybody?

“‘Rob,’ My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working (TRUTH!), yours does not! (per my conversation with Kim Jung Un, of North Korea, soon to become my friend!),” Another day, another cringe.
Governor DeSantis doesn't need to say all that much during the campaign, just let Trump write spooky posts such as this and stand back and watch the shaking heads and eye rolls.

Trump cleared the field in 2016 by harsh attacks on his main rivals like Rubio, Cruz, and Jeb. He seems to think the same strategy is his best bet again--but only considers DeSantis a significant rival (ignoring Tim Scott, Nikki, and the Indian guy). The assumption seems to be that everyone who voted for him in 2016 and 2020 will vote for him in 2024. In fact, his tactics may cost him a lot of votes of former supporters.
Of course the Republican primary race is of academic interest anyway...the Democrats will steal the election regardless of who the Republican nominee is.
