A U.S. senator on Thursday said he hopes Serbia would adopt Western sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, telling the Balkan country that “there is no future” in an alliance with Moscow.
“Russia’s invasion has been an absolute disaster and my belief is that Russia is ultimately going to lose this conflict,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn) told reporters in the Serbian capital Belgrade. Serbia is the only country in Europe that has not imposed any sanctions on Russia.
“The future for Serbia is with the European Union and with the United States not with Russia,” Murphy said. “There is no future with Russia. They (Russia) are going to be devastated, a permanent pariah internationally after this invasion.”

Murphy’s visit to Belgrade came as Serbia’s staunchly pro-Russian intelligence chief Aleksandar Vulin travelled to Moscow for a security conference.

Maybe, but how many times has Russia screwed over Serbia? Remember, they were always saying, “we will come rescue our little brother Slavs,” and they never did. Especially in 1999.

Murphy isn’t going to convince anybody. Notice that his appeal is more about being on the winning side, rather than on the right side. We may be on the right side, but it’s insulting to try to strong-arm countries like this. The Serbs might decide that our arrogance should not be encouraged or rewarded.
Too bad Murphy wasn’t picked up and held in a Serbian jail on whatever charge the Serbs want to bring or make up.

Chris Murphy was in Kiev in 2013 for the Maidan Coup, and on stage with John McCain, Victoria Nuland, and various elements of CIA-trained “Right Sektor,” urging on their brownshirt agitators who were occupying Ukraine Government buildings in Kiev and battling police.

No, thankfully in 1999 Russia did not start WWIII by shooting at the NATO forces bombing Serbia on behalf of the KLA Kosovo islamic jihadis. It was fun kicking sand in their face when they were flat on their back.
You seem a little smug about it, but the world is paying for it now. Serbia flips us the finger, Russia learned that appeasement only brings more provocations. And to thank us, the moslems attacked us on 9/11 two years later. And of course, no sane person trusts anyone from Kosovo.

I just commented about Russia, I did not comment on the U.S. invasion of Serbia, which I was 2000% against at the time. But I disagree that it was on behalf of the KLA. The sole purpose was to distract the nation from Clinton's problems. Apparently, you don't remember the U.S. was the "honest broker" in peace talks between Kosovo and Serbia, then after the peace talks ended, the U.S. decided to bomb Serbia, and there was absolutely no strategic, or any other kind of interest in the U.S. doing so. The only explanation for why Serbia was attacked was to benefit Bill Clinton. NATO had never used military force before without U.N. Security Council before. Sorry, there was absolutely no reason for the U.S. to invade Serbia or Kosovo. [Even if Kosovo may have been harboring bin Laden at that time.]
By the way, Somalia offered bin Laden to the U.S., but Clinton declined.
And Russia wouldn't have started WWIII, because the U.S. had not interest there. Clinton would have had to back down.
My point is that Russia always promises to help their "fellow Slavs," but they always pull the football out. Especially with Serbia. Serbia shouldn't trust Russia at al. [In fairness, they also made promises to Iran and Syria they failed to keep.] At the end of the days, no Slavs should trust Russians.
And in the last 20 years of Putin, Russians will always side with Muslims over other Slavs. Even now, they are killing Slavs, and promoting and allying with Muslims. They've been in the process of throwing Armenians under the bus, and siding with Azerbaijanis. [Not that Armenians are Slavic, but the Russians always talk a good game about how much they support them.]
