When he married Kim Guilfoyle at a Catholic wedding in 2003, Gavin Newsom had as his best man Stanlee Gatti, the longtime in-house florist at the St Francis Hotel. I don’t think many would be shocked that the longtime in-house florist at the St Francis Hotel is gayer than a three-dollar bill. It’s a free country, and Newsom can have anyone he wants as his best man. But I think it speaks volumes that of all the possible friends and relatives the man could have lined up as “best man,” he goes with an out-and-flamboyant gay man.
