Twitter Spaces crashes repeatedly during DeSantis 2024 announcement
Fox News ^ | 5.24.23 | Thomas Catenacci

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign announcement was mired by repeated technical glitches on Twitter Wednesday evening, in a black eye for the social media platform.

The highly-anticipated announcement, set to be made via a conversation with Twitter CEO Elon Musk and tech entrepreneur David Sacks on Twitter's "Spaces" feature, was delayed as it appeared the platform was overwhelmed. Twitter's mobile app repeatedly crashed and users complained that they were unable to hear the broadcast.

Whoops! We couldn't access this Tweet. Nearly 700,000 users logged in to hear the announcement roughly 20 minutes after it was launched. The event was then abruptly shut down without explanation.

"The servers are straining somewhat," Musk was heard saying at one point.

Twitter users pummeled Musk over the botched rollout, and Democrats were quick to capitalize.

Biden tweeted out a fundraising page with the caption: "This link works."

"Failure to launch," political commentator Kimberly Guilfoyle tweeted. "Trump 2024."

"This is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to a presidential candidate and it’s not close. Just hold a rally," David Marcus, another commentator, tweeted.

And the MAGA War Room tweeted an image of the Twitter Spaces with the words "failing to launch…" emblazoned across the top.

"This is aurally amateurish and technically raw. It will be a meme, and RDS's opponents will make it into a metaphor," Noah Rothman, a conservative columnist, added. "But if the campaign is competent, more conventional table-setting events will render it a bad memory in short order. Given the foreseeable errors, though, big if."

This is a developing news story. Please return for updates.

Elmo is an incompetent buffoon who does not take easily foreseeable precautions. He’s carried by the people he hires... and even then, they’re mostly trash themselves.

Elon is a known pathological liar. I can spell out hundreds of Musk lies if you ever cared to know about this imbecile. He fixes things in reaction... and even then, won’t fix them if they cost too much money, as currently Elon isn’t paying any of his vendors or rent.

That Ronny failed to anticipate this and chose such a poor venue looks really bad on him. Not to mention both Elon and Sacks, especially Sacks, amplify Russian and Chinese propaganda.

Maybe he should have used Truth Social.

LOL!

He wanted to announce on a platform that actually has users.

That’s a shame that he fell for that smooth talking from the elitist POS RINOS! Those bastards really HATE the base and have no sway with the party! On the contrary, we despise those POS aristocrat full of crookery globalist, anti-conservative base bastards! He fell for their lies, and now he’s gonna have to pay the ultimate price. he will be in known as another JEB! How Unfortunate….all he needed to do was sit back and wait until Trump asked him to be his VP. Such a shame I really like Ron DeSantis.. I really do and still do. But he just backstabbed him by not returning his appreciation to president Trump for the endorsement that won him the governorship …instead he fully and wholeheartedly sided with the elitist RINOS who have just destroyed him.

What a way to start a campaign. Better call the FAA, this campaign is crashing and burning on takeoff.

Back-up plan was have Karl Rove announce his candidacy by writing on a whiteboard.

Heard Ron got a little testy with Musk.

He asked Musk, “How difficult can this be, it’s not rocket science, is it?”

Musk said the sheer heat and force of DeSanctimonious’ disastrous launch reduced his platform to unrecognizable rubble.

But that’s okay, Musk said. It turns out that you get much more information from failed launches than from successful, flawless ones.

It isn’t often that 700,000 twitter users want to access a Space at the same time. Presumably Musk’s people will learn much.

It kept crashing repeatedly until David Sacks opened his "space" and invited those who were in Musk's "space" to join his.

I was there.

After about three minutes of David Sacks room being open, there were 14.8k people "Live" with Ron DeSantis in the room, at which point DeSantis launched into his announcement.

They didn't want to seem to wait to see how many people would enter the "space" nor to see if it would crash again. It seemed/felt 'hurried' by Musk & the DeSantis campaign to get the announcement done.

Once that was completed the Q&A session seemed to start. At which point there were approximately 100,000 people and 20 minutes into the announcement & Q&A session, the "space" seemed to top out at about 269,000 people.

I didn't stay to the end, it was "more of the same" from DeSantis, didn't say anything new so I left.

I have screen snapshots with the times on them to back up what I said above. There was less than 50% of those who were in the original space that Musk had set up, which kept crashing.

One would think that Musk would've known the limit of the space he'd setup for the DeSantis campaign announcement. (Load Testing anyone??)

Personally, I don't think this was a good look for the DeSantis campaign and I cannot imagine he's very happy with how that went.

I hope Musk gets the bugs worked out of Spaces before Tucker Carlson starts his show on Twitter. Just sayin'.

I heard it on my car radio. DeSantis was very strong and I can understand why Trump backers don’t want to talk about the content of what DeSantis said. He gave lots of specifics and there was none of the stump speech style fairy tales we get endlessly from Trump.

When Trump initially announced in 2015, he grandly descended down an escalator.

Ron unceremoniously descended down a rabbit hole in cyberspace.

Ron’s launch was like an audition for the Apprentice.

Looks like he won’t make the cut.
