Almost every presidential candidate ran before announcing. Nothing new or surprising here. It is normal and legit as the rules change. If I recall, even Trump did it for his reelection.

Almost every presidential candidate ran before announcing.

Not to the extent that DeSantis has been campaigning. And Trump was president when he campaigned for his second term, so, not quite the same, is it?

Though I like DeSantis and will vote for him in 2028, he has been blessed by weak candidates that ran against him in Florida, both times.

He got lucky in 2018 in a squeaker against somebody that was clearly crooked and had moral issues. Then, DeSantis was blessed with Charlie Crist, who was always running for something and ran for governor 4 times, and except for 'winning' a seat in congress, wasn't much loved n Florida. The 20% advantage against Crist was something that just about any other candidate would have had against Crist. Crist was a very poor candidate for democrats, and Ron's victory in 2022 is overblown.
