The problem for the Russian military is they are fighting a "cabinet war", or a war of choice, while the Ukrainians are fighting a war of survival, or existential war, where they have no choice.

It is the same dynamic seen in Afghanistan.

People are much more willing to sacrifice and die for their homes and families than for an abstract empire.

How many casualties there are on each side are highly guarded secrets, by both parties.

Both will attempt to inflate the other's casualties and minimize their own casualties.

Your argument (or really, just your hopes) rest on this false statement

But it is really not the same existential war because the Russians and Ukrainians were the same shared country for three generations and have had the same heritage for a thousand years.   Certainly they have mixed allegiance among individuals and within families.

I have lived next door to a Russian family from Moscow for over twenty years, until this conflict started, upon which Galena told us she was Ukrainian and was very proud Zelensky was Jewish.

It reminds me of our War Between the States which has always been known of a war of Brothers against Brothers.

Ukrainian Partisans deny it but it is clear to see for those who want no part of this insanity.   Biden's Munchausen by proxy must be stopped.

You’re quite sure you know about Ukraine and this conflict, but your opinions are so far from reality.

In reality Russia had no choice to invade here.

Go back starting with the 2014 Yuke revolution, the Minsk agreements, NATO bases with missiles trained on Moscow, (and much more) and you'll see that it was all orchestrated to isolate Russia.

And as far as Russian propaganda, no one out classes our own state department and our media here in the US.

Always remember, they both told us that DJT was and still is a Russian agent. They worked together to prevent the American people from electing a president of their choice. Don't believe anything coming out of this administration or our news outlets.

It's not a cabinet war from the Russian's perspective. They consider NATO's combined effort via the proxy war an existential threat. Russia has always warned NATO not to cross the red line(s) because Russia would defend itself from having foreign military assets parked on their border.

Ole’ Samuel sits high in my pantheon of true American heroes. If you are determined to use him for your nick, you have a high bar to clear, an expectation to be correct. Yet the first sentence of your post misleads by supposition, that Ukraine is fighting for its home and Russia has the choice to fight or not. In actuality the causes of the war are reversed, Russia is fighting for its life and Ukraine now has the option to stop attacking, after taking the option to attack Russia. There is a lot of propaganda about this but after you boil your socks you are left with this. I’m sure Mr Clemens would agree.

Bullshit. Russians are fighting an existential war against a coalitionof nato fops, neocon wankers, and hoho kleptonazis all hell bent on dismembering Russia, all having studiously ignored every kind of warning abut red lines over a long period of time.
