Ron DeSantis says his 2018 ‘Build the wall’ ad was “satirical”
'It was a little tongue in cheek, but that was, you know, many years ago.' It turns out the most famous ad of Ron DeSantis’ political career was just a joke after all.
In an interview with John Stossel, DeSantis took aim at those who took seriously his ad from 2018’s Primary campaign in which DeSantis acted like a Donald Trump mini-me by teaching one of his children how to “build the wall,” and reading to another from The Art of the Deal.
“Well, if you watch that, I mean, you know, it was a satirical ad,” said the Governor who was described in the spot as a “pit bull Trump defender.”
“It was a little tongue in cheek, but that was, you know, many years ago.”
DeSantis acknowledged the attention the ad brought him during his first run for Governor.
“I was running and we wanted to get some notoriety. And so I knew if we did that, that it would cause the press to go berserk, and what they would do is they would be outraged by it, but they would keep playing it and so people would see,” he explained.
“I don’t even know how much money we paid to run it, but the media ran it for us because they were so upset, you know, that it was a pro Trump ad.”
The ad positioned Mr. DeSantis as the Trumpiest candidate in the 2018 field, reminding voters that he was endorsed over Adam Putnam.
“Everyone knows my husband Ron DeSantis is endorsed by President Trump, but he’s also an amazing dad. Ron loves playing with the kids,” said Casey DeSantis in the spot.
While the ad may have been satirical, the former President continues to emphasize that his endorsement got DeSantis elected.
“I got him the nomination. By the way, he could have never gotten the nomination. He would be working in either a pizza parlor place or a law office right now,” he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity in March.
What DeSantis did do as Governor was get E-verify passed in Florida for any employer with more than 25 employees.
And it’s totally voluntary for non-government entities.
Yeah, real tough.
What DeSantis did do as Governor was get E-verify passed in Florida for any employer with more than 25 employees.
But he’s just some Jeb Bush Stooge.
None of Ron’s accomplishments matter to the Trump-or-Die FReepers.
They’re scared of DeSantis, as Trump is. They should be.
Many people have poor satire detection sensors.
(for reasons that I’ll never understand)
Especially since it seems the Republicans know what is good for America.. At the very least they know what Americans want.
So, they talk a good game.. until they get elected..
Otherwise, they could do the right thing ..they could do what they said they will do.
So, why don’t they? /R
Please clap
“Otherwise, they could do the right thing ..they could do what they said they will do.
So, why don’t they?”
Trump basically did...but look at how he was treated by the Republicans.
Sort of like the partially built wall is real tough.
“One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.”
― Thomas Sowell
Of course he didn’t as governor - but the IDEA and the GOAL are still important and achieveable if he’s running for President. And he gave this interview as the lead-up to his announcement to run.
And said it was all just funzies.
“But he’s just some Jeb Bush Stooge.”
You said it - not me.
If he becomes the nominee, the nomination will be served up to him on a Uniparty/Soros kangaroo court golden platter. If that’s the case, I’ll write in Trump even if he’s serving in a RdS/Uniparty gulag. Even if there were an honest general election in ‘24 after a sham R primary, Uniparty (R) hacks have no chance under such a circumstance. There are too many America First, Make America Livable Again patriots who’ll see the Uniparty seditionists for what they are this second seditionist time around.
They have been terrified of the Media for decades.
Only very recently have a few been able to stand up to the Media, survive, and prevail.
It is because there is a small amount of alternative, conservative Media to get their side of the story out.
Those include Governor Walker of Wisconsin, President Trump, and Ron DeSantis.
They’re scared of DeSantis, as Trump is. They should be.
Scared.. but not for the reason you are suggesting.
It seems to be a point some people ignore. It’s completely useless if it’s voluntary. It also doesn’t do anything to address the root of the problem.
It is ironic that a Governor that has passed one of the most conservative agendas in the country is viewed as scum by a number of people who call themselves conservative.
I’ve said repeatedly if Trump wins the nomination, I would gladly support him, I’m also not in the Trump or No One category, if Trump is indeed the only person who can supposedly save this country, then the country is already lost.
Well, my brilliant math appitude was neutralized by a lack of coffee.
However, it is much better than DeSantis’s when he says 2018 was many, many years ago.
I don’t think he means “satirical.” I think he means it was a humorous ad to both show what he believes and using humor with his family was a great approach.

I can see sarcasm escapes you, I’m not surprised.
“Three years is not many years ago.”
The year 2018 was not three years ago.
Sundance at Conservative Treehouse has claimed this all along.
Desantis talks a good game, but is “controlled opposition,” who will immediately turn RINO once he’s in power.
