“We can’t be passive in world affairs. Like it or not.”

Actually, we can, just as we were regarding that part of the world during the Cold War.

Cough, cough.
Uh Bob we were extremely active in the Cold War in many ways.
And Reagan ultimately broke the USSR by building up our military .
There was NOTHING about our great nation that was passive.

Ask the people in Budapest in 1956, or Prague in 1968, for starters.

I understand the need to re-write history, but I don’t have to play along with it.

We couldn’t fight every battle for every oppressed nation.
But we did a lot.
I’m proud of my countries told in standing up against tyranny and bringing freedom to many .

And you left Cuba off the list of failures.
Yes we should have nailed that as well.
Kennedy left brave freedom fighters to die when called off our air support .

Agree on Cuba, and agree with Reagan’s buildup.

Don’t agree with starting WW3 for a bunch of Ukrainian Democrats that worked their way up the ranks at the State Department, starting with Victoria Neuland. If people like her hate Russia so much, they should go back home to Ukraine and join Azov - in the US people are NOT supposed to bring their Blood Feuds across the ocean...and that’s for a GOOD REASON.

Well, in good news for Ukraine, Slovakia handed over all its 13 MiG-29s to Ukraine late last month, the Aussies are considering giving them some 40 old Hornets they haven’t been able to offload, and Sweden has offered to begin basic training on Gripens for Ukrainian pilots (not sure if that means they will actually get any, though).

All seem more suited to purpose than the F-16s.

Hornets need 2 bullets to bring them down. F16s just need one.

“ No wonder the US wants to “distance itself” from that clown show. Russians have much to be embarrassed about as well.”
*****************************************************************

Yep, the Russians should be embarrassed that they allowed the Ukrainian incursion into the KILL ZONE where the Ukrainians suffered 70 KIA before they unceremoniously withdrew back across the border sans much of the equipment they entered with.

Sounds like you are looking for a fight.
Go find one somewhere.

Mr. Budanov, Intel Branch of the Ministry of Defense, Ukraine, is a bit of a loose cannon.

Why do you have the nerve to say the USA has any fight in any nation not involved with NATO?

I can offer one explanation, you want Biden to cover his extortion.

That is about all.

Of course, no one in his right mind would want to help a country being invaded by an aggressive imperialistic power. No one in his right mind would just be interested in helping them to preserve their freedom. No one in his right mind would think that not stopping such an aggressive power would encourage it to expand even further. No one in his right mind would think that allowing such expansion would be a threat to world peace. No, there must be an ulterior motive. We should just let brutal dictatorships conquer whomever they want. It's none of our business. Only a pro-Biden sycophant would want to support Ukraine defend itself from Russian invasion. There can be no other reason, none what-so-ever.

Resorting to ad hominem attacks just reveals the weakness of one's position.

If you are implying the Russians allowed them in so they could whoop up on them in a “kill zone”, it did not happen that way.

The Russians had perfect opportunities to either knock the them out before crossing the border into Russia (have you seen the videos of the UKR troop column just before crossing the border?) or when that bunch pulled up to the Grayvoron checkpoint (videos of that, too). So the Ukrainian forces got to cause trouble in Russian villages and injure civilians in the process. Some sources say it took five hours for the Russian military to respond and engage, others say “almost a day”.

Sorry, the Russians were asleep at the wheel. And the Ukrainians were idiots for leaving all those vehicles parked out in the open at the Grayvoron checkpoint, too. Of course the Russians made them go bye bye.

Nothing to be proud of on either side.

The Russians also made a goodly number of Ukrainian incursionists go BYE BYE also… PERMANENTLY. A dirty price to pay for a momentary distraction from the Bakhmut withdrawal.

It was something of a suicide mission and a clown show, but it did have some practical value for the Ukrainians IF (and I put this as a big IF) it causes the Russians to to devote military assets to the defense of the border that would otherwise be fighting on the front in Ukraine.

Personally, I think Russia could (and should) move internal assets into Belgorod area (from, say, Voronezh area) without having to draw on those at the front or destined for the front in Ukraine. More experienced analysts (who are not pro-Ukraine) disagree and think there *could* be loss of assets to the front if dedicated to border defense instead, so there’s that.

If I am right, it was just a silly prank that will make no difference on the battlefield. I could be wrong, of course.
