I bet that crypto is converted PDQ. Crypto is more traceable than a $100 bill.

They use “cryptos” in these articles to make it sound like crypto currencies are the tools of the underworld.

If you want to ruin the drug trade, convert $100 bills to a new format. And make the old format unusable, the drug trade will come to a sudden stop.

It would be fun to see the turmoil.

Of COURSE they are. Just like selling parts that COULD be used to make nuclear stuff. If anyone confronts them, they’ll say “We’re selling this multi-use chemicals. We can’t control what they’re used for”.

All you have to do is change the color and give everyone 60 days to turn in their old currency if they have a Valid Social Security number and proof of income. The Cartels would be bankrupt overnight, unless they can claim they sold a few Billion Dollars worth of chiclets at the border for all cash in the last 30 days.

Strange. No doubt Cryptos are used for illicit activity but probably not to a large extent. More for bribes and tax evasion I would guess, than for drugs and weapons.

There are all kinds of lore about drug money. One, that Escobar while on the run from the Colombian military and DEA burned $10 million in cash to keep his kids warm in a rural cabin. He had tens of billions stashed all over the country.

Another story is that “drugs are fast, money is slow” meaning that the drugs are very cheap to produce and the volume is high so they can afford to throw tons of it at the border knowing some of it will get through and some will get caught. But while cheap in Colombia and Mexico, it is expensive in the USA and Europe and hard to move the cash back.

One would think there are innovative ways to launder the money. If you have cash stuck in the USA and need Fentanyl precurser materials delivered to Mexico from China... why not set up a front company that orders legitimate goods from China at a Fentanyl price mark-up. Cheap toys and shoes come to the USA and the drugs to Mexico but the money appears to be “clean”.
