Some people just like Hitler because he was famous and killed a lot of people. It’s not that they’re fascists or white supremacists. It’s more like they’re nihilists or demonists or death worshippers or crazies. The fact that the swastika was an Indian symbol before it was Hitler’s may also be relevant.
I had a Mexican-American friend growing up who was fascinated by dictators. He read Mein Kampf and Mao’s ‘Little Red Book’ - it was sort of a fascination with him. He admired people who were able to come out of nowhere and rule nations. He was by no means sympathetic with their ideals. When I first knew him he was around 14 and going around handing out pro-Nixon literature in the 1972 presidential campaign.
