If I recall correctly, decades ago, Jesse Jackson urged us all to refer to black/Negro people, as “African Americans”, and the description caught on.
Such people are African-Americans in the same manner as many Americans can be said to be “European-Americans”, based on the ancestral home of their ancestors who came to America.
Let it be so. Let us be a nation of hyphenated-Americans. E Unum Pluribus.
