Senate was not good enough. Had to run for POTUS only. It was the case with too many governors in the recent past. They were not team players. Think Tommy Thompson in Wisconsin. Plenty of others. The democrats live for this stuff-we don’t.”

That rings a bell. What year was that. I remember DuPont. He was governor during the Reagan years, correct?

Du Pont was governor in the 1980s. Ran for president in 1988. Got talked down to by Bush. Robert Novak liked Du Pont. Called him “the patrician populist.” Du Pont wsa pretty conservative.
