The Russians won so how many Ukrainians were killed along the way?
American intel says 7 Ukrainians killed for every Russian in Bakhmut is the casualty exchange rate. That would be 700K + Ukrainians. Hard to believe but the number must be huge given the civilian loss of life added to the Ukrainian military losses.
The butcher's bill for the insanely senseless Ukraine conflict is going to be staggering when the truth finally comes out. Not to mention quarter of a trillion dollars that will be completely wasted in a losing cause when we can least afford the bill

I’ve said from the beginning that the best cast scenario is being blundered into a new multi trillion dollar, generational Cold War (accomplished). The more likely outcome will be the maniacs in DC and Brussels escalating this into WWIII. When that happens it will take a NATO total conventional commitment along a 3500 mile front a week to totally decimate the Russians. The Russians would react by crossing the nuclear threshold within ten days of the proxy gloves coming off. We are so far up the escalatory ladder that I doubt we have time to elect Trump to stop the madness.

I think whatever the outcome in Ukraine - Russia will re-group and com back to fight another day only they won’t be alone next time.

I don’t know if they’ve lost the actual city, but the Ukrainians have assaulted both flanks of the city, taking the high ground. It’s possible both Russian and Ukrainian claims are true. The fight for the city may be on the outside of the city. The Russians have not established good defenses since they’ve been entirely on the attack. Since the Ukrainians mined and later destroyed defenses as they retreated the Russians face the risk that the defenses they’ve captured are similarly mined for later destruction at some opportune moment. Now the Russians face the problem of supplying the city while the siege has reversed on them. The city has little tactical or strategic significance. The battle is political more than strategic and commentators on both sides seem to agree that the Russians paid a high price. The problem for the Russians if they burned through assets and people they’ll need later. I suspect the war will be won or lost based on politics that take place in Moscow, Berlin, Washington and other capitals. Regardless, the scars for this war will be felt by both sides for better than a century.
