(Reuters) - Russia and Ukraine gave conflicting accounts of the situation in Bakhmut on Sunday, with Kyiv saying it still controlled a small part of the besieged eastern city while Moscow congratulated the Wagner private army and Russian troops for "liberating" it.
* Ukrainian forces have partly encircled Bakhmut along the flanks and still control a part of the city, Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said.
* Senior Ukrainian General Oleksandr Syrskyi said Kyiv's forces controlled a small part of the devastated city, were advancing in the suburbs and weregetting closer to a "tactical encirclement" of the city.
* Russia claimed on Saturday to have fully captured Bakhmut, which would mark an end to the longest and bloodiest battle of the 15-month war and Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated troops and Wagner.
* Biden said the Russians had suffered over 100,000 casualties in Bakhmut.

After capturing some open fields and wooded areas on the NW and SW flanks about a week ago , Not much progress on the Flanks the past few days as Russia moved in reserves and the heavy artillery

Well yes that is a possible plan. Arguably that’s how Russia turned the war against Germany at Stalingrad. Kept the 6rh army fighting and right as they almost won attacked the flanks and trapped them.
That’s where I agree with you though. The entire idea is you have to surprise attack the flanks while the main army is busy fighting in the city. Otherwise the Wagner force can just retreat from the city or even better yet counter-counter attack the flanks of the Ukr attack attacking the Russ flanks.
Either the Ukr attack isn’t going very well and was slowed or the Ukr leadership made a big mistake.
Can’t imagine how torn up this country has to be ...so this all came about by clinton and bama pushing the Nato alliance? and it’s all good because the war business is cranking out weapons? May God smite all who initiated and continue this war with extreme prejudice.

The Ukrainian attacks appear local in scale and retook several farms to the north and south of Bakhmut.
As far as large scale operations, there was a week of mostly sunny weather which permitted the saturated ground to begin drying but the rain is back and the 10 day forecast is for rain every day in the Bakhmut area.

You did predict today someone would report the Ukrainians have Bakhmut encircled, personally I thought it might take a couple of days, turns out it didn’t take a couple of hours for the reports to begin.
For all we know, by tomorrow or sometime this week, reports will start that Ukraine has started their counteroffensive and are advancing on all fronts, after retaking parts of Bakhmut.
Pretty clear that Ukraine is trying to give some ‘encouragement’ to their Sugar Daddies in the West by implying that Bakhmut was some of a trap against Russia.
There is a real war to be analyzed and discussed, but reading the ridiculous comments here isn’t going to contribute anything to that.
There was a time when knowledgeable people came on to free Republic for intelligent discussion and provided us with information. Those days are long gone.
Now we have childish morons who go on about homos and that everyone is lying and all the Secret plans to destroy Russia and other idiotic comments.

The battle for the town isn’t over because Ukrainian forces still have to oppose the Russian forces as they try to move beyond the city. The Russian forces have to try and keep the Ukrainians from enveloping their flanks.
Wagner will either push forward to the West or they will send troops to the 2 flanks to secure those or both.
During the attempted Russian offensive for the last 6 or 10 months, the Russians have made some small gains and the Ukrainians have made some small counter attacks. All this has been at great cost to both sides.
All eyes will soon turn to the Ukrainian counter attack, which idiots here claim failed already or is never going to happen or other ridiculous comments.
The issues with the counter attack are that the Ukrainians have to adopt the Western tactics they’ve been taught, and they are fighting with a lot of fresh troops most of whom have never seen combat. Also the Ukrainians have to successfully adopt the Western fighting style which they’ve now been taught.
But why do I digress to discuss something sensibly when it’s going to be met with ridiculous remarks about homosexuals nazis and Vlad.
