Donors have helped make DeSantis a frequent flyer
SeatleTimes ^ | May 20, 2023 | R Davis O'Brien and A Berzon

For Ron DeSantis, Sunday, Feb. 19, was the start of another busy week of not officially running for president....

(list of events)

Ahead of an expected White House bid, DeSantis has relied heavily on his rich allies to ferry him around the country to test his message and raise his profile.....

But ethics experts said the travel — and specifically the role of the nonprofit — shows how DeSantis’ prolonged candidate-in-limbo status has allowed him to work around rules intended to keep donors from wielding secret influence. As a declared federal candidate, he would face far stricter requirements for accepting and reporting such donations....

DeSantis is still required to report contributions and expenses in his campaign finance records, but the new law probably prevents law enforcement agencies from releasing more details, such as itineraries, flight information or even lists of visitors to the governor’s mansion. (DeSantis says he is trying to address a security concern.) ...

More digging into desantis.....

Not, as desantis supporters/nevertrumpers would claim as sourced from, or instigated by, Trump, but originally from the anti-Trump nyt.

Btw, what is desantis going to owe the donors?

Of course, even if desantis says something, you may not be able to tell if he's telling the truth about any of it, anyway.

Especially since the records are going to be hidden.

DeSantis lost me when he closed public records in Florida.

IMO neither he nor anyone else should run for president while holding another office. If he wants to run then let someone else be gov of Florida.

More and more the “Liberal” press is going after DeSantis, as if they do not want him in the GOP primary race. Even the “Liberal” polls too are saying DeSantis should drop out. Wonder why “Conservatives see nothing amiss in all this?

Donors?

As soon as RDS announces, I'm a donor.

(Not a huge donor, I'm retired, fixed income, but I'll donate to Ron asap. I'm saving most of my tax refund to be an RDS donor.)

> DeSantis lost me when he closed public records in Florida. <

That’s a fair stance. Democracy thrives when the sun shines in. It withers in the dark.

And yes, I’ve read defenses of this new Florida law. I’m not buying it. Sure, I can see hiding things before the fact. You wouldn’t want to tip off a lunatic as to where you’re going.

However, there is no justification for hiding things after the fact. Let the sun shine in!

But wait. Then there’s Trump with all his unnecessary insults. I dunno. Maybe I’ll just write in Free Republic’s Jim Robertson for president in 2024. I can live with that.

Oops! I’d better write in Jim Robinson.
Jim Robertson? I don’t even know who that is.

You're welcome to donate to desantis.

It's likely to be comingled with the state campaign donations, that are being laundered and converted to use in his federal campaign - even though the FEC says it's illegal to convert funds from a state office, to a federal one.

That seems to be unknown, at this time.

Though there were those articles yesterday that said his wife was running things ;-)

Oh my goodness. What a nothing burger. The left continues their attacks on Trump, but has also started collecting articles on DeSantis so they can refer to his “history of alleged corruption” just in case he is the eventual nominee. Conservatives fall for it each and every time. I’m a Trump supporter, but I’ll not endorse and support the same attacks on DeSantis that was done to Trump for so many years.

If the media wants to find actual corruption to report on, they can go look at a few democrats, starting with the Bidens and working backwards, to next investigate the Clintons.

This is the same “drip, drip, drip” campaign they are doing on Justice Thomas, and as they did on Justice Kavanaugh, Matt Gaetz, and so many others that I can’t think of them all at the moment. They have been doing this for almost a decade now on Trump. Their goal is to wear down GOP voters to the point many decide to just stay at home.

The left starts a campaign on a conservative, publishes articles every few days alleging unsavory or corrupt actions, and then use those same created stories, all from anonymous sources, to start creating a story line. Then, with each new article, they can refer to the previous article to set their narrative.

Their actions derails one or two conservatives each election cycle. The articles on the alleged wrong-doing and moral failings of targeted candidates will be front page news each day until the day after the election. At that point, after the candidate has lost, the media loses interest. They never even report on the conclusion of any investigation that determines their reporting was all based upon lies.

BTW, I didn’t search through the article to see if they mentioned Hunter Biden’s traveling to his child support hearing on his attorney friend’s private airplane. However, I assume if they are reporting on travel by candidates or their family members, they at least thought to mention that detail.

Why should security protocols be out in the open, even after the fact? We’re supposed to let people with ill intent know the workings of security details, whether they be for our state officials or for visiting officials from other states or countries?

Just a little history. No especially related but factual.

Arkansas used to be an open records state but Bill & Hillary closed almost everything down before they left Arkansas.

As far as Trump and “unnecessary insults”? Considering what these especially evil people have done to him I don’t blame him a bit.

I would respect DeSantis a lot more if he respected Trump
like Trump respected him.

Instead he told him FU!

Will never vote for him.

“As soon as RDS announces, I’m a donor.”

As he sips his cocktail on his private jet I’m sure he will think fondly of your donation and how it paid for his drink.

"As a declared federal candidate, he would face far stricter requirements for accepting..."

Taking advantage of grifting by not declaring candidacy, a weasel move by a professional grifter.

Yes.

For those that don't know the regulations, or figured it out, desantis has been running a con job with the FEC.

By not saying he's running for president, he was able to continue to do fund raising and accept donations into his state office level campaign fund, were as, if he had hinted or said anything that he was running for president, he would be legally forced to comply with federal campaign donation rules, which were more restrictive than the state office ones.

So, by lying about his intent, he continued to raise something like $13 million for his state fund since the beginning of the year.

Now, as he's getting ready to announce he's running, he has laundered the state campaign funds, and something close to $85 million will be converted to funds for his presidential campaign.

Note that the FEC says it's illegal to convert state level funds, to federal ones, but desantis is doing it anyway.

Aren't you glad desantis has shown how shady he can be, from lying about his intent to run for president, so he could continue fund raising, to his illegal conversion of his campaign funds?

And isn't it great, that there are people that want desantis to be president, despite all this? (sarc)
