Walgreens will pay the city of San Francisco nearly $230 million, after a federal judge found the company liable for contributing to the city’s opioid epidemic.

The settlement, which will be paid out over 14 years, will go towards addressing the city’s opioid crisis, San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu announced on Wednesday.

“Opioids have wreaked havoc across our nation leading to immense suffering and untold damage,” he said in a statement. “Cities like San Francisco have shouldered much of the burden of the opioid epidemic. “

“Following our win against Walgreens during the liability phase, this historic agreement ensures Walgreens is held accountable for the crisis they fueled and our City receives appropriate resources to combat the opioid crisis and bring relief to our communities,” Chiu added.

The Opioid problem has been going on in CA Bay Area since the 90’s.
Walgreens had nothing to do with it.

The cause was:
Dr careless prescriptions
Illegal internet sales
Drugs from Mexico
War in Afghanistan (cheap opium -> Drug companies)
San Francisco encouraging drug use.

I heard of my first Heroin death back around 2000 in the Bay Area.
I remember because it sounded so strange as I thought Heroin use ended back in the ‘60s.

“Zero responsibility for government regulators at the FDA.....”

BINGO! Everything in every store has been approved as “safe” by the FDA. I’m not a fan of “woke” Walgreens, but this is a BS ruling.

I dont get it either. Heres the court logic in a snippet from the story:

“U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer found last August that Walgreens “helped fuel” the opioid epidemic in San Francisco by failing to provide its pharmacists will sufficient resources and putting pressure on them to quickly fill prescriptions.”

Its just incredible how fascists work. Fascists are socialists who some keep private enterprise around to do the real work. When things are good govt takes credit. When they need to blame someone for something negative, they use private business as the whipping boy.
