Well full disclosure one of my ancestors rode with McNeill’s raiders During the misunderstanding. He was involved in the raid across the Potomac where they captured General Crook and my ancestor liberated his sidearm a Whitney dragoon which has passed through my family ever since. I just passed it to my nephew. So call me a Confederate. 😎
