Hopefully it shows up in DC, NYC, SF, LA... etc
My grandparents lived in Conroe Texas when the explosion happened in Texas City. 90 miles away. Their windows rattled hard when the shock wave got to them.
Both are. Arguably Texas city did result in a number of separate POL tanks exploding an burning.
“One never know, do one?”
Unless, of course, they use it for fertilizer.
Ammonium Nitrate pellets seem to vaporize (sublimate).
So, if they fell out of the hopper, they would disappear over time.
Quibble all you want.
“Gee Ralph...does the train feel like it just got 30 tons lighter?”
If it drained out on the tracks it should take no more than 24 hours to find it. They dump coal on the tracks all the time. It gets so deep they have to call in folks to remove it.
Railroads be screwing the pooch here lately.
“Both are.”
Nope. Texas City was ammonium nitrate mixed with other substances, including parraffin, a combustible hydrocarbon, which essentially made it an alternate formulation of ANFO, not just ammonium nitrate. And it was transported in the same ship as small arms ammunition as well.
And in Beirut, the ammonium nitrate may have been “by itself” on board the ship, but then it was unloaded by the government and placed in Warehouse 12, where they were also storing fireworks. And Warehouse 12 was also adjacent to a grain elevator. So, nope, neither of those is an example of ammonium nitrate “by itself”, as I said.
Showing that you have your facts wrong is not “quibbling”.
I’m sure it’s just an accounting error.
🙄
You sir..are 100% correct.
These aint no amateurs that pulled that one off.
Ammonium Nitrate pellets seem to vaporize (sublimate).
Not at current normal ambient temperature.
Of course, with the current rate of global warming, it could happen in about 500,000 years. 😉 YMMV
Ya beat me to it...my first thought.
I was a tunnel miner in my youth days and some of the crew used to take a few pounds home to spread on lawns. Had to water the heck out of it as our stuff had diesel fuel and was actually ANFO. Still worked very well.
Re-number and swap out hoppers.
BZZZZZZT, nope.
ANFO is NOT cap-sensitive...must have a primer. Completely different critter.
The chicoms probably sent a bunch of balloons that scooped the pellets out of the hopper cars...
Our pansy-boy DOD probably that it was NBD as they tracked all those balloons...
Yeah, but not because of the derailment….
Feds took it, funneled it to one of the WEF/Soros brown shirts to cause riots to derail the election or some other staged event to erode our freedom….
