Voted for Trump twice… and would vote for him again … IF I thought he could win.
But, in swing states like Arizona where there are more Independents than R’s or D’s, and where Trump being Trump is losing a growing portion of the I’s, it is pretty clear to me he will never carry enough swing states to win a General.
Based on that, and based on how DeSantis can draw Independents, I think DeSantis is the best hope for R’s to retake the Whitehouse in 2024.
“Voted for Trump twice… and would vote for him again … IF I thought he could win.”
I also think DeSantis can win. He can reach out towards the center like Reagan did, as Reagan had the base locked down.
The problem, though, is how does DeSantis lock-down the base? If it’s a contentious Primary against Trump, then some 15 million (or more) Trump voters will be pissed at Desantis and sit out the November, 2024 election...so impossible to see how DeSantis wins in that scenario.
So DeSantis needs to figure out a way to win the Primary WITHOUT pissing off the Trump voters - something I haven’t yet seen...but who knows, maybe I’m missing something.
“DeSantis is the best hope for R’s to retake the Whitehouse in 2024.”
Mr. Troll: The time has long passed when candidates are distinguished by Rs or Ds.
Most Rs now are J.V. Ds, so just having one in the White House doesn’t guarantee good things for America. We need pure MAGA. And MAGA isn’t just Trump; it’s a state of mind — an ideology.
DeSantis would be no better than W Bush.
Your logic is solid, your conclusion is almost flawless. The problem is, then we end up with 4-8 years of George Bush. This is the old way of thinking, which has got us here in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, I like DeSantis. I do, but he is a politician. I know beyond any doubt as to how Trump will conduct himself in the Oval Office. I don’t doubt that DS would do good, but he is a politician at the end of the day, and from existing evidence, quite possibly well connected, if not part of, the GOPe.
