Dud, maybe there are more red flags per capita in that group. Audits are not done on a random basis. How stupid are policial and social “scientists.” Extremely stupid they prove again and again.

I could see these as the very reasons blacks are audited at higher rates. Unreported income and fake dependents are good reasons to check.

Generally the more “red flags” you have exhibited in a return the greater chance of an audit.

Is it simply that more returns submitted by blacks have a great number and percentage of such “red flags”?

You must not venture into the gray areas of the tax laws. I live there, and haven’t been audited in nearly 50 years.

If you file a Schedule C (Self Employment) and claim EITC, the IRS has a separate file for those returns. That combo has dominated the percentage of returns audited for decades.

I strongly advise hiring a CPA for those situations.

Blacks are more likely to claim things like the Earned Income Tax Credit. That is a high fraud payment (25-30% fraud) that triggers a lot of investigation because there is a lot of $$$ involved and lots of fraud.

The correct measurement should not be which group get’s audited more, what what percentage of audits for each group reveal actual tax frauds issues.

People who have their taxes done by tax lawyers aren’t likely to commit blatant, easily proven fraud. But people receiving the EITC and additional Child tax credit are because...drum roll...a lot of people CHEAT! My ex-DIL is paying back the IRS now after falsely claiming the kids on her tax returns while they lived full time with their Dad.

When you are 23, claim 6 kids and no father, no house payments, only making 40k in assistance, your driving a 2021 escslade, it makes things kinda sketchy with the IRS, no matter what color you are.
