Former President Trump is pushing back on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) remarks calling on the GOP to reject a “culture of losing” to win in 2024, saying “Ron is not a winner.”
In an interview with The Messenger – a news outlet that launched Monday – Trump rejected the notion that DeSantis is trying to portray Trump as “too caught up in the past” as the governor mulls a potential bid for the White House.
“First of all, I’m not at all caught up in the past. And second of all, I’m doing much better against [President] Biden than he is in the polls, and I’m doing much better against him,” Trump said. “I mean, I’m beating [DeSantis] by 40 points in some polls, so he can talk about what he wants. And third of all, I did very well in the midterms.”
“Ron’s not a winner because Ron without me wouldn’t have won,” Trump added. “If I would have left it alone, he would have lost by 30 points or more.”
DeSantis said at an event over the weekend that Republicans would win if they provide a “positive alternative” to President Biden.
“But there’s no substitute for victory,” he said. “We must reject the culture of losing that has infected our party in recent years.”
Trump has repeatedly taken credit for DeSantis’s win in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial race. He said in the new interview that DeSantis was a “dead as a doornail” in race before he endorsed him.
“He was dead, dead as a doornail. And I revived him. … I’m a loyal person,” he said. “If that happened to me, I would never run against the guy that did that. He’s got plenty of years left. And I think if he runs, he’s gonna lose MAGA votes forever. That’s my opinion. And the MAGA votes are almost everything in the Republican Party, far bigger than you think.”
When asked if he would ever endorse DeSantis, who was overwhelmingly reelected in 2022, Trump said, “It’s too early to say. So far, I’m not a fan of the way that he’s running.”
He also said that DeSantis is not doing well in the polls because he has “no personality” and does not have “a lot of political skill.”
Yep DeSantis is right up there with Newsom a state operator.
No those are your words and are a strawman argument, no Republican will win another national election, if they continue to complain about election laws, instead of playing the game with the rules that exist.
In order to change election laws, you first have to WIN elections and that means playing the game with the rules that exist today not the rules that wish were in place.
Ronald Reagan was a state operator after being an actor, so your observation is meaningless at best.
How well your method has worked in the past.../s
Not at all.
Your “feel good: argument makes no sense but has lulled generations into holding their noses to vote and losing their franchise for Government by the people, to the syndicate.
Only a blind man would think their are rules in place at this time. America is a banana republic with corrupt judges, corrupt officials and pay to play.
A governor has State authority over elections, a President does not. Civics 101.
I am talking about his political fights and successes.
This country cannot withstand the level of corruption in the DOJ, FBI, CIA etc. What will Desantis do about it?
The economy will come back, inflation will eventually subside, sooner or later Congress will fix the border mess, the the government corruption will remain unchecked until and unless a President fixes it. And unless it is fixed our country will not continue a free country.
That is becoming by top priority.
Tell that to those of us living in Florida and paying twice as much in insurance this year. That is DeSantis doing, he has failed to address it. That is the number one issue here now. The only reason DeSantis is where he is is because Trump put him there. DeSantis is a backstabbing SOB and I will never vote for him.
Civics 101 also teaches you it takes the legislature to vote on laws the Governor or President signs to get enact into law.
Trump had a Republican House and Senate for 2 years, were any meaningful election reforms proposed by Trump during that time, Trump couldn’t get the Republican House and Senate to repeal and replace Obamacare or pass Wall funding or any meaningful immigration reform.
The one long term success Trump did have was Federal Judges, that requires the Senate to confirm his choices, which the Senate did, can you imagine Merrick Garland as a Supreme Court Justice is frightening.
There is a lesson in there about getting along with Congress.
Civics 101.
Ron’s or Trump’s? Trump has a great track record.
Cool. Another Trump/DeSantis circle jerk…..I’m getting close…..
“ If Ron is the most successful Governor why is the state ranked lower than 10 others on many metrics.”
That’s easy.
Because Florida has had some not so great governors in the past, Democrats and fake republicans. Bob Graham and JEB! are just 2 of them.
Your attempt to mix Fed vs State government powers is noted. Civics 101. You're welcome.

Using the left’s talking points to attack Ron DeSantis is NOT a good strategy for victory.
You mean when the Democrats proposed federalizing elections they had no power to do so ??
In addition, doesn’t each state and the federal government require a legislature to vote for laws before they can be enacted ???
Civics 101.
Yes, I believe that's exactly what DeSantis is saying.
Never mind that Trump won 2016 and then minus the cheating, we won again in 2020. DeSantis ignores all of that. DeSantis has never as far as I know, acknowledged the 2020 Steal.
Instead he pushes the Karl Rove/Paul Ryan, Fox, CNN, and Democrat uniparty talking point, that there was no steal and that 2020 was a legitimate loss.
DeSantis took the first shot on this. Trump responded.

I’m not sure what your comment is meant to imply. The comment to which you were replying was correct - at both the state and federal level, the legislature votes on the laws, and the executive (president or governor) signs them. No attempt to mix the two, just a clear statement of the process that applies to both.
Not on point. Have you researched the pat governors in other states before shooting from the hip?
Plus I didn’t attack DeSantis on leftist talking point. I would not vote for DeSantis nationally in 2024 based on his performance in Congress, his Globalist buddies and his statement that he wants to be a politician like Paul Ryan.
