The liberal Move Forward party and the populist Pheu Thai Party were far out in front with 99% of votes counted, but it was far from certain either will form the next government, with parliamentary rules written by the military after its 2014 coup skewed in its favour.
To rule, the opposition parties will need to strike deals and muster support from multiple camps, including members of a junta-appointed Senate that has sided with military parties and gets to vote on who becomes prime minister and form the next administration.
Sunday's election was the latest bout in a long-running battle for power between Pheu Thai, the populist juggernaut of the billionaire Shinawatra family, and a nexus of old money, conservatives and military with influence over key institutions at the heart of two decades of turmoil.

Move Forward is a leftist pro-gay party.
Pheu Thai Party is a Trump like populist party.
They now have to work together to get rid of the generals who have ruled Thailand for the last decade.
Before the generals get rid of them.

In our country, the Phu Bar Party wins by cheating.
What about in Turkey? E-Dog “won” again?
“Which political party did China support?”
The incumbent generals. Their party, UTN, was wiped out in the vote.
I thought that was the Phuc Tup party here in the States.
They do not have ballots coming from a dozen sources.
Lol
Phuc Tup party.
Best laugh for me all day..
Thailand?
Somebody had to say it. 😂
The generals learned nothing from the US Democratic Party.
If you count the votes you win.
Last I saw, a hour or so ago, it was looking like a run off will have to be held.
Results as of 0300 AM: Turkish time I believe.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan: 49.37%
Muharrem Ince: 0.44%
Kemal Kilicdaroglu: 44.94%
Sinan Ogan: 5.25%
Very close.
No matter who wins, Turkey is likely to remain it’s own individual, majority Muslim culture. The thing is Erdogan always seems willing to stir up problems in that part of the world. He has often threatened NATO that if Turkey is not admitted to that organization, Erdogan will then send even more uneducated, unemployable Syrians to central European nations as revenge. He is also very anti-Israel.
Erdogan is pro Turkey. Everything else is The Swamp and people need to stop presuming that countries are obligated to adhere to policies the US neocons might like.
Majority Muslim? So is Indonesia. This is inconsequential. They are not obligated to be Christian.
And btw, Turkey has been in NATO since the 1950s. It is the EU that excludes them.
I didn’t realize it was the EU who are acting to exclude Turkey from NATO.
“They are not obligated to be Christian.”
God thinks differently.
