I doubt it was that. Most of the Iranians/Persians in the United States aren't hard-core islamists. A lot of them retain their historical Zoroastrian roots.
But, be that as it may, I think this was more of a case of the brother being pissed off about this rich guy leading his married sister into a life of depravity (it takes two to tango, but I'm sure Nima was putting all the blame on Bob Lee).
