An eight-year-old girl was rescued after her brother shot a 17-year-old kidnapper with a sling shot in Michigan.
The girl, who has not been identified, was on a mushroom hunt near the woods just outside of Alpena Township in the northern part of the state, police say.
The victim's uncle posted on Facebook that the 17-year-old male suspect had a 'black mohawk' and had come out of the woods, covered the young girl's mouth and then tried to drag her away.
Her 13-year-old brother saw the tussle from inside the family's home and took action, grabbing his slingshot and firing objects at the would-be kidnapper's head and chest.
'That caused him to let go,' said Lieutenant John Grimshaw, commander of the local post of the Michigan State Troopers.

The victim's brother was credited for his heroism and making it easier for police to identify the suspect.
'What he did also helped us to identify who the suspect was, because obviously he had injuries from getting hit with a slingshot,' Grimshaw said.

Wrist Rocket is a great weapon, especially if he was using marbles or ball bearings.
I guess the nutshot is effective if that target isn’t shielded but an eye and a nut are about the same size and eventually your eyesight returns after a nut shot. Or so I’ve heard.
“Theres also a what not to do vid of a guy shooting a 1/2” ball bearing at a target in front of a plywood back stop. It ricochets straight back and smacks him in the forehead”
Reminds me of the ONLY time I’ve ever used a 1 iron...
Skinny little sapling tree 10 yards ahead, a lower trajectory of the golf ball than I was used to.
WHAP! (I hit the golfball)
WHAP! (golfball hits tree)
WHAP! (golfball hits forehead)
BIG lump!
I know where you got the ¼" hex nuts, where did you get the eyes?
I wonder if the boy’s name was David.
“I wonder if the boy’s name was David.”
I was wondering the same thing. Did he have “five smooth stones”?
Indeed. Even if you don't hit the ten ring on THAT target, it will give your assailant some incentive to get the hell out of range.
Basically all the good models today are wrist-rocket style, arm bracing.
No matter where he lives, Bragg will prosecute him. The abductor will get a bail hearing.
These are not the slings of ancient warfare — which were damned deadly.
Nonetheless, since they easily kill small game getting hit with one is gonna hurt enough to make you stop whatever you are doing.
Good kid. He had a projectile weapon at hand to protect life and he used it. When he grows up a bit more I hope he gets a gun and becomes proficient with that.
Doesn’t anyone know what sarcasm is anymore without a (sarc) tag? I guess I’ll have to start using them.
The title reads like the Black Mohawk is the new Wrist Rocket.
That one was perhaps just a little subtle when you consider that there are a some here that would say that in all seriousness.
If you don’t know his name nor listen/watch any podcasts(I tend to not be a fan of them), Shawn Ryan has a great one. You can find them on Youtube, for free.
He is pretty damn good at interviewing folks. Asks basic questions, lets them talk without interrupting and tends to ask some great follow up questions.
This will blow your mind....

Was the boys name David?
And slingshots will now be considered racist by the Left
Making it easier for police to identify the suspect.
John Wayne hat tip to the young MAN.
Pilgiam in jail
You’re right. Although I would have thought that “putting his eye out” ,”horrifying”, and “assault slingshot” would have tipped most off.
if the kid could not resist assaulting the little girl that he saw... losing the eye would be a benefit....
for him...
if your eye causes you to offend pluck it out, for it is better to enter the kingdom of God blinded than to walk fully sighted, into the jaws of eternal hell...
or so it was said...
ANYTHING that propels a projective is banned in many American cities, even many small towns have adopted that ban. Control freaks and busybodies lurk everywhere.
