Former President Donald Trump has all but dropped a key word from his vocabulary: Republican.
He didn’t say it when he met with supporters — including a Jan. 6 defendant — at the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester, New Hampshire, late last month.
During remarks to a packed ballroom at the DoubleTree hotel earlier that day, he said it only in praising some GOP governors’ work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since he hit the campaign trail in early March, according to an NBC review of Trump’s speeches, interviews, video posts and face-to-face interactions with voters, the front-runner for the Republican Party’s 2024 nomination has used the name of the party he seeks to represent in sparing fashion — and typically to disparage other party luminaries.
“Fox News and [Senate GOP leader] Mitch McConnell and the Republican donors have basically signed a pledge to stop Trump at any opportunity. So, why should he be touting the Republican Party?” Steve Bannon, host of the “War Room” podcast and the CEO of Trump’s 2016 campaign, told NBC News. “He shouldn’t be loyal to the Republican Party. They haven’t been loyal to him — they’ve scheduled 10 primary debates to wound him.”
In essence, according to advisers and allies, Trump is returning to the anti-establishment themes of his successful 2016 bid for the presidency that rallied voters to slay the favorite totems, orthodoxies and candidates of both parties.
"Yes, there’s the Republican primary still, but some of the strategies and tactics in regard to how we’re engaging Joe Biden will look a lot more 2016 than 2020,” said Jason Miller, a Trump campaign senior adviser who worked on both of the former president's prior bids.

How can you have a "brand" that stands for nothing?
He won’t be running as a Republican, he will be running as an independent... And the result will be another 4 years of Biden, or whomever is alive to take over from Biden when he either dies or is wheel chaired away to an Alzheimer’s unit.
Independents typically result in losses for one party or another... Just ask Al Gore (Ralph Nader), or Bush 1 (Ross Perot).
What GOP brand? The spineless toads haven’t had one for decades
The lockdown prez who gave billions to big pharma.. bumpstock ban that peopl are having to defend themselves against.
The guy whose idea of Social security math is t pay people, not citizens, it taxpayers.. to have children… who thinks this s the solution?
Big gov all the way.
Yes but those who vote like that get to bask in the personal glory of their own pureness! And isn’t that what it is all about!
BTTT
Besides “GOP - The Same But Less”?
Draining the Swamp requires destruction of the GOP and DNC structure in DC.
Look people, he won in 2016 with Obama voters in WI, MI and PA. Think very carefully about that. Those voters didn’t suddenly become GOP voters. They became Trump voters because they support Build the Wall and Drain the Swamp.
They don’t give a damn about the GOP brand. They care about conservatism — which has a very strict definition:
Build the Wall
Drain the Swamp
America First In All Things
Pro 2nd Amendment
Pro Life
Note this specifically excludes tax cuts or spending cuts. They involve that substance created from nothing by the Fed on a whim. How can such a substance define ideology?
So of course he runs for the GOP nomination and wins it, as independent. All the GOP bozos will support him. Remember, the never Trump wing of the party is about 2% the size of the articles they get in the media. Traditionally about 10% of GOP voters vote for the Democrat in an election (and vice versa). The Never Trump faction are entirely ignorable.
Ridiculous, he will not be running as an independent. He will be the Republican nominee unless the lawfare effort is successful which is possible given the venues of the cases.
GOP isn’t going to do him any favors - DeSantis already has raised more money than Trump and he’s not even a candidate yet.
Good idea for Trump he knows.
Mitch McConnell and the Rhino donors have basically signed a pledge to stop Trump at any opportunity.
Cut the head off the snake first.
blah, blah, antichrist nbc, blah blah.
Good. The GOP is full of cowards and sellouts, who wants to associate with that? I hope he forms a new party, I would join in a heartbeat. To hell with the Republicans that have allowed the destruction of America without a fight.
To get the job done, Trump will need a solid Republican Congress. Therefore he can not shed the brand. He needs them and he needs us - plus independents. He can do it.
Let’s see, what is a Republican brand? Tax carve outs for wealthy, constant war, benefits for illegal aliens, butt kissing the Chamber of Commerce, and lipspeak regarding social issues to get elected. Once they get elected, they claim they don’t have the votes to honor any of those pesky social issues.
Oh, and they walk across the aisle and bend over.
Yep, dump them Trump.
2016 was three cycles ago. How did 2018, 2020, and 2022 go for the Donald?
The republican party run by a bunch of Mc’s??? Thanks, but no thanks.....
