They will come in droves with the promise of surgery and all medical bills covered.

The govt will adjust the enlistment time so that it is exact to the amount of time that it takes to transition and then they can leave with all bills paid and all benefits. All of their active service will be spent in the hospital and recuperating and none will be for the benefit of our military and country.

In late 1994, early 1995, I was the senior NCO (NCOIC) of a athletic section at an AF base in the northwest. I worked with a civilian at that time that had been in place for years and was a reserve LT Col commanding in the 445th when working.

While in one of the fitness facilities, we had a person in a light yellow sun dress, white gloves, and a flowered hat walk into the men’s locker room. We knew about him because he had been 445th but this was the first time he/she had dressed in female clothing and attempted to enter the male locker room. He still supported the male piece of the anatomy, so we couldn’t stop him even though he had had breast augmentation (on his nickel).

Shortly after its entry, the colonel chaplain and the vice wing commander came flying out of the locker room in panic and I took them into the office to talk to them. I mentioned this was the first time for this and I would be contacting the unit commander.

This guy had been 445th and wasn’t able to get the bennies he wanted so he went regular and got thrown out for mental problems and was declared 100%. (After he was beaten up a few times)

He was trying to get the VA to pay for the gender reassignment surgery so he was pushing the issue. What finally happened was I went through the jag and it went to the pentagon and a letter was sent down of which I was ordered, and only me, to give to him because they wanted some experience to do it. The letter required him to remain covered in the genital area at all times to include in the showers.

He, of course, exploded and tried to get me to say something he could use in court to get the bill for the remaining surgery paid for. And I refused to talk to him and requested he contain his screaming and language or I would call the SP’s. He left and I didn’t see him again.

As I understand it, he sued the military for the cost and didn’t get it. But this is not the only reason people join the military for advantages.

The medical field, for one, is an expensive endeavor and a lot of people working in it come in to get residency or training for 4 to 6 years and then leave trained in another field. Happens often. It’s part of the trade off for getting people in that normally wouldn’t be there.

OK, that’s the best case scenario. What about the worst case scenario? lol
