It's hard to understand the political calculation here. This goes over like a lead balloon with the Hispanic population, which is an ever-increasing segment of the Democrat voter base, especially in California. It's not like they need to worry about any Republican challengers, so it looks like they're driving a wedge into their own base for internal reasons. One can hope that they'll just fight among themselves over this and damage their prospects outside of California.

Japanese - Americans got reparations in the 80’s. You had to still be alive in 1989 to get the cash though.
They should write their reparation law the same way — maybe even include a grandfather clause — if you can PROVE that your grandpa was a slave, you get 40 acres and a mule.
They don’t have the money to pay their $5 million + $194K/year x 20 - and they never will.
But the first time they pay ONE FECKING DOLLAR as a “downpayment”, the fragile civil peace that still prevails will be over for good - which is the goal.
There will be add-on taxes “to pay what we owe”. Every budget cycle will be dominated by “how much from the whites this time? As of 2046, they still owe 94%”.
A debt from Group X to group Y simply cannot be allowed to be written into law, not even if the first payment is one cent.

No problem, prove you were alive under the time Slavery was legal in the land of fruits and nuts. BTW, California, the state, was a free state on admission to the US. So any claimant would have to prove they were alive before 1850. Under even the new math or ubonics, that is 172 moons ago. IOW, take your hustle and shove it. If you can do better, plains, trains and autos leave the US every hour so find a place that is currently giving reparations and go before their money runs out. Start with Somalia or the DRC.
