You know, it is safe to assume that the elites of the West are more offended by churches than by using bombs. They are busy bowing and scraping to poofters, trans and Muslims too.

That doesn’t mean I think the Russian government is not full of hypocrites as well. They are.

I have been saying for some time now that this conflict will be decided by economics and not brilliant military strategy.

Russia had a record surplus of $227 billion in 2022, up 86% from 2021. In the meantime, the Ukraine regime’s primary sponsors have been hemorrhaging cash at rates never seen before. The US deficit was a record $1.38 trillion in 2022. The UK is borrowing at a record pace. Germany’s budget deficit is now projected to reach 4.5% of their GDP in 2023, a record for them. Most other NATO countries are in the same boat.

Western countries are drowning in ever increasing debt. The Russians have been enriched by high energy prices and increased trade with China, India, UAE, Turkey and other countries not participating in the Western-led sanctions (i.e. the rest of the world outside the “collective West”) All Putin has to do is wait it out until the West can no longer sustain higher and higher debt and our economies go down the tubes. At that point the grifters currently in charge of Ukraine will jump ship and live their lives out in luxury from all the money they have been absconding with.

Seriously though did anyone actually believe that the Biden administration was capable of handling any foreign policy matter well after the debacle in Afghanistan?

Additional info: "Russia announces delivery of four new Su-57s, total number remains unclear". Valius Venckunas. 2023-01-09. (Link)
"UAC has posted several images and video footage showing two of the aircraft with their serial numbers covered."
We still don't have a good idea how many there are. This is not surprising, Russia likes keeping the numbers of R&D and early production numbers secret as long as it can.

"Ukraine War: Russia Gets Fresh Batch Of Su-57 Stealth Fighters; RuAF To Buy A Total Of 76 Fifth-Gen Warplanes". Ashish Dangwal. December 29, 2022. (link).

"The Su-57 started receiving serial deliveries in 2022. By the end of 2024, the Russian defense ministry would acquire 22 fighters; by 2028, their force strength would increase to 76."
Rule of thumb with Russian procurement, no matter what the Russian MOD says, until they have it, they don't have it.

Meanwhile, there are over 900 F-35s flying with the USAF and our allies. If Ukraine gets F-16s when everyone run out of left over Migs and Sukhois to give them, its a sure bet more F-35 sales will happen.

BTW, the F-16 design started in the late 1960s and first flew in 1974.

My understanding is that the Su-57, while quite awesome on paper, is still in the developmental stage.

Here's a picture of the Su-57:

Ever wonder what exposing the engines does to the Su-57's stealth characteristics?

If the intercept aspect angle is less than 170 degrees, the Su-57's radar signature goes up.

In a maneuvering, in-close dog fight, the IR (heat) signature is much higher than western fighters.

Here's an interesting article on "Why Russia's Su-57 Stealth Fighter Crashed"

https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/why-russias-su-57-stealth-fighter-crashed-112906

I will admit it is a pretty fighter aircraft.

The Su-57 will probably never see combat as Putin could not survive the embarrassment of a shoot-down.

BTW, the F-16 design started in the late 1960s and first flew in 1974.

Some defense articles claim the Su-57 is Russia's answer to the F-22.

Well, the YF-22 first flew in 1990 and the F-22 first flew in 1997.

So, Russia is only 25 years behind with an aircraft that is not really stealthy.

They can’t seem to build but 2 a year, and probably are not building any at this point. It might never enter full rate production. Note that while the video claims 4 “new” planes, only 2 are shown at any time. Add to that the Bort numbers are inexplicably blurred, and I’d say this is just video of previously delivered planes being passed of as new.

The USA will build it’s first 100 6th gen fighters before Russia builds 100 SU-57, which isn’t even legitimately 5th gen.

one bright side to the incident is that the pilot’s survival was ensured by the Su-57’s more advanced Zvezda K-36D-5 ‘smart’ ejection system, which reportedly can save the pilot even while the aircraft is flying inverted, locked in a spin, or experiencing a mishap at zero-altitude on the ground (a “zero-zero” ejection). Combined with the pilot’s VKK-17 pressurized suit, the Su-57’s ejection system supposedly remains effective as high as 66,000 feet and while moving at over twice the speed of sound.

The one SR-71 (A-12) ejection that I'm aware of only had a Crew Survival rate of 50%. (IIRC that was around 80,000' and over Mach 2.) Until this Ruski system meets or beats Ours I'll stay tuned to the regularly scheduled propaganda releases.

Side note:

According to official releases from Boeing and the U.S. Air Force, the F-15 Eagle has a clear-cut win-to-loss ratio of 104 to zero. But in fact, opposing air forces have claimed, in nearly a dozen cases, to have shot down the iconic, twin-engine fighter. All the claims have one thing in common. The claimants were never able to provide any evidence for their supposed victories.

There was an Israeli F-15 that landed safely missing almost half of one wing. Personally, I'll stick with American Aircraft.

You are absolutely correct.

I would be willing to bet that Su-57s aren't even gen 4.5 as their avionics are primitive when compared to F-22s or F-35s.

Why The SU57 ‘Felon’ Sucks

In this video, we take a closer look at the overhyped and underwhelming SU57 Felon - and why it might not be quite the impressive fifth-generation fighter that many think it is. Despite its sleek design and impressive manoeuvrability, this aircraft falls short in key areas such as stealth capabilities, outdated systems, and limited production numbers. Join us as we delve into the specifics and explore why the SU57 Felon might not live up to its hype as a dominant force in modern air combat.

“Russia had a record surplus of $227 billion in 2022, up 86% from 2021”

According to Russia’s Ministry of Finance, the Russian federal government ran a fiscal deficit for 2022.

Oil and gas revenues surged on skyrocketing gas prices in the first half, enough to make the whole year of 2022 a banner year for oil and gas revenues. But the government spent all that and more (cashing out a significant percentage of their financial reserves in their National Wealth Fund), on the war, and supporting the ruble and bailing out companies hit by sanctions. Net, 2022 was the Russian Government’s second worst deficit (COVID was worse), since post-Soviet reporting began.

Oil and gas prices are back down to pre-war levels, over 80% of Russia’s natural gas exports are gone (likely long term), the have begun cutting their oil production below their OPEC+ quotas. Russia budgeted for a wartime deficit of 2% of GDP for 2023, but has already exceeded 80% of that annual shortfall in the first quarter, according to their own official figures.

Russian oil storage capacity filled completely in April, and production reductions are now forced to physically occur. The Russian Government has announced that will no longer report production figures.

They are gushing red ink, and no sector of their civilian economy is growing
