It’s just a matter of who will use them first. If NATO and the US can manipulate Russia into firing them first, the history books will blame Russia for WW3.

Who do you think has done the most inhaling of the dust created by hitting armor?
According to the leftwing IAEA
“But with shells containing DU, the main risk is of inhaling aerosols released on impact with an armoured target.”
I would think the VA study is the best source for that.

But depleted uranium is radioactive and can cause radiation poisoning - and is particularly harmful to children.
...Depleted uranium is even less radioactive than natural uranium (at least 40% less so), which is safe to hold in your hand. Uranium is primarily alpha radiation, which can't penetrate your skin (or those precious childrens'!).
The only real danger from DU ammo is if it's set on fire or turns into dust and is inhaled. At high enough dosages, it'll hurt a bit. But even swallowed or 'injected' (fragments/bullets in you) aren't much of an issue - assuming you fully survived the shooting/blowing up, the uranium poses more of a chemical toxicity issue than it does a radiation problem.
