I remember after looking at 3 dives with him that we spent another hour or so just driving around streets looking for realtor signs. Wrote down a few, and called one while we were still looking in the area. The landlord was nearby and told us of another apartment he had that was further away, but not much. We got in on a great deal with that guy. My son lived there even after he graduated for another year or so.
The area was an older one and being gentrified. It’s now a really “happening” part of Columbus called the Short North. So funny when you see the growth in an area while it’s in transition. We lucked out. Too bad we couldn’t afford to buy that apartment back then. We’d be sitting pretty right now if we had. Such is life.
I guess I should have said “had”, yes I notice those areas are more and more being gentrified, so student ghettos are quickly becoming a thing of the past, along will all other forms of cheap housing.
That part nearest campus, where this accident happened, is like a ghetto, hasn’t changed in all these years. The area I’m talking about, the Short North, is just a couple of miles away from campus, and not far from downtown Cbus. That part has now been gentrified, and I’m sure the rent is sky high now. Only for the upper middle class or wealthy.
My daughter just told me the house last night belonged to the same frat that the kid who died in Mexico was part of.
Fortunately my daughter will be living in the Wellington the next two years.
That’s very sad that it is the same fraternity. The Wellington is pretty nice! There are a lot of fun things going on in Cbus, and we found it was a great place to raise our kids when we were there. We still go back to visit our son or old friends several times a year. In fact, we are currently planning a trip for June with our oldest who hasn’t been back in 3-4 years.
